Dear Abby....

Internet is a funny place…
These are actual letters sent to Abby that she admitted to being at a loss as to how to answer them:

Dear Abby:
A couple of women moved in across the hall from me. One is a middle aged gym teacher and the other is a social worker in her mid twenties. These two women go everywhere together and I’ve never seen a man go into or leave their apartment. Do you think they could be Lebanese?

Dear Abby:
What can I do about all the sex, nudity, language and violence on my VCR?

Dear Abby:
I have a man I can never trust. He cheats so much, I’m not even sure the baby I’m carrying is his.

Dear Abby:
I am a twenty three year old liberated woman who has been on the pill for two years. It’s getting expensive and I think my boy friend should share half the cost, but I don’t know him well enough to discuss money with him.

Dear Abby:
I suspected that my husband has been fooling around, and when confronted with the evidence, he denied everything and said it would never happen again.

Dear Abby:
Our son writes that he is taking Judo. Why would a boy who was raised in a good Christian home turn against his own.

Dear Abby:
I joined the navy to see the world. I’ve seen it. Now, how do I get out?

Dear Abby:
My forty year old son has been paying a psychiatrist $50.00 an hour every week for two and a half years. He must be crazy.

Dear Abby:
I was married to Bill for three months and I didn’t know he drank until one night he came home sober.

Dear Abby:
My mother is mean and short tempered. I think she is going though mental pause.

Okay, I hate to tell you this, but I remember these from when I was in high school back in the '70’s.

The site from which I lifted also have been around a long time…

I have to pit that guy

A couple of weeks ago Dan Savage’s column listed some questions he’d gotten that he didn’t know how to answer. That was pretty funny.

This is the second time in as many days I’ve heard Dan Savage’s name. Who is he and where can I find his column?

One place is via the AV Club, which is the “serious” arts-related wing of the satirical The Onion. Click on the “Savage Love” link at the top.

Oh yeah, who he is - he’s a sex-and-relationships-advice columnist who covers topics you probably won’t see in your average daily newspaper. He’s also gay, in a committed relationship, and (adoptive) father of a boy. Finally, he’s sharp-tongued and witty.

Hey, thanks. I could use some true life relationship advice from someone not afraid to tell it like it is.

It’s mostly sex-related but he does tend to tell the letter writers how often their sex issues are really rooted in respect, etc., from their partner. And it’s not at all work safe so keep that in mind when you read!

Dear Abby did mention the prank letters she received from time to time. She blamed the college students for trying to pass one over on her.

Bill musta had one hell of a hangover!

I usually read him on The Stranger’s website, where you can also find archives of his column and links to other articles he writes. It’s NSFW.

He’s also written a couple of books about his family that are both hilarious and touching.

Actually, I really did know someone like this.

I used to read Dan Savage’s column in The Reader, but it’s a little hard to do that now that I’m no longer in Chicago.

Dan Savage’s column is in a lot of alternative weeklies.

It’s probably easier than to read it on the website.
