Unfortunately even non-deplorable sites get a ratings boost from trump, I think, as trump haters flock to their favorite sites to find out what latest stupid, crazy thing he did or said and be outraged by it. I have to admit, I’ve been guilty of this in the past, and I’m trying to wean myself of outrage addiction and avoid reading articles about him. I’m glad his twitter feed is permanently down so I’m not tempted to read it.
I think this is the answer. I was recently reading an article about how most (all?) standard cable TV ratings were down–even sports–except for cable news during the pandemic. Even more so from Sept-January. Trump is a cash cow for news media.
It gets them clicks. This is the focus regardless of whether it is journalistically necessary. And as much as they hate “The Donald”, like an abused spouse they really looove the way “The Donald” treats them. Someone should really sit down and have an intervention with them:
I’m ambivalent. There is a lot I would like CNN to do to improve the quality of their news coverage, but I wouldn’t put “stop giving gratuitous coverage to Trump” at the top of the list.
For example - He’s going to speak at CPAC tomorrow. I consider this a pretty big deal, in terms of seeing what he says, how he conducts himself, and how he’s received. My hope is that he’ll be unfocused, vindictive, and unmistakably off his rocker, and that CPAC attendees will be lukewarm in their reception. My fear is that he summons up just enough lucidity to come across as a powerful leader, to those who wish to see him in that light, and that there will be lavish praise of him afterward.
If the second scenario is what plays out, I’m going to be pretty unhappy (thought not necessarily surprised). However, I want to be informed no matter how it goes.
When we moved to the 24/7 news cycle, we went from having to wait 8-12 hours for controlled, limited access to news and information but information that had a higher percentage of better quality reporting…to immediate access to a high volume of infotainment and ignorance.
It seems counterintuitive: one would assume that access to oceans of information would be good, but it’s easy access to junk food news. It’s like being on a strict diet and having access to nothing but vending machines and convenience stores.
This evolution of “news” and information is changing how we think and behave.
Been saying it for a while, and I see the MSM just can’t let go, they absolutely positively HAVE to have him in the lede. They learned nothing. It’s addiction. They are jonesing so much for the neurotransmitter rush after the infliction of pain, they have to get more even as they know it’s killing them.
Or he will be unfocused, vindictive, and unmistakably off his rocker, and the crowd will love it like fuckin’ Beatlemania 'cause that’s exactly what they want.
Loser Donald: “I’m the greatest person ever. I was treated very unfairly by the Electrical College. Everyone agrees I won by the greatest margin of any president ever.”
The Audience: “TWELVE MORE YEARS! TWELVE MORE YEARS!”
I hope I never again:
See his hideous hairdo
Hear his pathetic whining voice
See his prehensile rectum of a mouth
Look at his tiny fingers
See his ridiculously long tie
See his fat ass playing golf
What I do want to see:
Him in handcuffs being sent off to prison
All of his family in prison
All of his buildings stripped of his name
Him being buried in a pauper’s grave
