Dear CNN: As of 11 pm Eastern, the Polls In _Two_ States Had Not Closed

This is somewhat petty, but I’ve got to vent. I was watching election coverage on CNN with a couple of friends last night and trying to deal with some bad news. As the evening wore on, CNN kept saying they only had one state left to hear from, Alaska. Excuse me, CNN. I spent 7 years living and voting in Hawaii, and I can assure you the polls there do not close at 5:00 pm. Yes, I know Hawaii was almost definately going to go Democratic. I’m very familiar with the workings of their local political machine which is why I voted Republican so much while I lived there. Nevertheless, this former kama’aina would like to point out that Hawaii is still a state and their votes still count! One thing that frustrated me while I lived there was hearing about who the president was before I got a chance to vote.

Dear, bloody gods!!! CNN is supposed to be intelligent and well-informed. Nevertheless, those yahoos managed to conveniently over look one of our 50 states. Do me a favor, guys. Before the next election, get geography lessons! While I was living there, I swore the state should have gone for Ross Perot or the Libertarians just to remind the national media they existed!

You voted Republican? Have we lost you or are you confessing?

I’m a radical independent. I voted for five candidates in four parties yesterday, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, and Green, and I’ve only voted for an incumbent once in my life, and that includes those running unopposed. It started in Hawaii when I figured a guy who was unopposed in the primary and unopposed in the general election did not need my vote. In each case yesterday with one exception, I voted for the candidate who I felt would do the best job. I tend to describe myself as “middle of the road, shooting at both sides.”
