Dear Og, it's me, Tashii (a mild rant about breasts)

Figure out how to keep that beer cold and I think you could be on to something.

Um. Both of those things make total sense. Really big breasts are not comfortable, and neither are men with huge schlongs. If you’re larger than average, you aren’t getting anywhere near my girlie bits. That HURTS.

I feel the frustration of the other ladies in this thread who have a hard time finding a bra in their size. I do, too. I am supposed to wear a 30DD but just you try to find one of those. Hint: you can’t. The best I can usually do is a 34D or DD which will work but isn’t an ideal fit. I own two 32DD bras and I guard them with my life.

Bravissimo to the rescue! All of those bras have a 30 band with DD cups. There are even some 28 bands as well. Granted, they’re pricey, but I’ve found the quality of Freya, Fantasie and Panache to be wonderful.

Has anyone bought bras from barenecessities?

I seem to have the opposite problem. When I gained weight, my breasts stayed proportionate. Ever tried to find a bra in size 42B in regular stores? I’m planning to buy a few from Bare Necessities and send back what I don’t like, but I’ve been procrastinating. Gonna have to do something soon, though. My cheap JC Penneys sports bras (Uniboobs R Us) are getting pretty ragged.

I’ve been losing weight, though, so I might be back down to 40B.

Signed,
Another hater of bra shopping.

I think quite a bit of it is that a lot of the women in these threads sound unhappy about their breasts, and guys want to make them feel better; of course, what we say won’t necessarily have that effect, because many guys (myself included) have the skills of a … something that isn’t good at framing compliments and reassurance. Kinda blanked out there.

Gilligan & O’Malley at Target sells a 34D with stretchy cups.

The problem with buying bras online is that unless you already know which one you want, it’s a crapshoot without being able to try them on. I can go into a dressing room with ten bras of the right size and come out with maybe one that actually feels and looks right. I just don’t have the money or the inclination to actually plunk down money and wait for the mail just to try them on and then have to send back the ones I don’t want. If I could just find a store that carried the same bras that bravissimo or barenecessities sells, I can try them on and then buy online, hoping the go on sale. $60 is a lot for a bra and I only buy mine at VS during their bra sales. If you buy one good bra at a time, they end up wearing out faster, so you have to get a few at a time.

Personally, I’m not offended by the guys’ comments about big boobs. I’m not surprised either, for what it’s worth. Captain Carrot, we know. It doesn’t help much. Thanks for trying.

Hey ladies (and gents), I’m back from work and an hour-and-a-half of bra shopping (and subsequent “try on and sort” at home). Hit Ross; no luck, as nothing was in my size except for the craziest and most minimizing of bras. Stopped at Kohl’s after that; learned that Maidenform and Vanity Fair brands, when they have my size, do exceedingly strange things to the shape of the bra cups that just doesn’t work for my bra size. Somehow, I think bra manufacturers are not familiar with the “large but perky” style of breast and thus refuse to believe they exist. I don’t need to roll my boobs up and stuff them in a cup, and they sit higher than a lot of bras seem to want to be designed for. What made all of this worse was that my two least favorite colors were the only ones I found bras in: white and “grandma Bessie” beige. Stopped at JCPenney as a last resort and found a style of bra by Ambrielle that fit some of my bra requirements; they fit without quadraboob or weird “constrictions,” they didn’t come in giant straps of doom, and my boobs looked “normal” in them. What was even better was that I’d stumbled into the middle of a sale and got two bras for less than the regular price of one.

I got home, and proceeded to do the “try on and sort” job of my bras at home. Out of ten or so bras, only three of them fit in a bad manner and had to be sorted to be tossed. Hmmm. So I’m now a 38D in some brands, and a 38DD in others, and a 40D in others. I don’t quite get it, but at least I feel like I’ve got bras that fit that are comfortable, even if I can’t get them in colors other than white, tan, and black. At least I can get them in black somewhere. At least I didn’t break the bank in making sure I had some stuff that fits well.

Does it make me old-fashioned that I only buy bras in white, black, beige, grey, and sometimes blush pink? I used to have a purple bra (my favorite) and a red one, but not anymore. :frowning:

I also must have underwear in solids, usually black, grey and white. I hate patterns.

Try VS, if you want a choice of colors. The seamless ones don’t offer near the color selection as the sexy (but uncomfortable) ones though.

VS does sell my size (sorta), but at this point, I can’t afford to shell out $50 every time I need a new bra. It also requires a lot of trying on stuff and hoping their quality hasn’t gone down the toilet since the last time I’ve been in.

As for colors, it’s not necessarily that I buy a lot of crazy colors, but that I like the option to. The only bra colors besides white, black, and tan that I have are a midnight blue, a lavender, and a dark purple or two. I even went through a phase in junior high and high school where the vast majority of my bras and panties were black. (I blame my irregular menstrual cycle and a silly notion that everything had to be “matchy matchy” to make things easier.) My panties are where I let the colors and patterns go wild and crazy.

BTW–how many of us big-breasted women find that they need to have bras of two sizes on hand–one for most of the month, and the other for the time around your period, when your breasts are a cup size bigger, heavier, and more uncomfortable?

I don’t believe I’ve ever paid $50 for a bra at VS. The key is to get in there during their awesome bra sales (at least twice a year, I think). You should still be able to find your size (mostly) as long as the particular style you’re after isn’t dainty and ultra-sexy*. As for quality, I’d say its meh these days. I don’t think they last as long as they used to, frankly.

The one thing that pisses me off is that their IPEX bra tanks don’t come in DD. Why, God, why?! :frowning:

I’ve gone the sale route. It appears that there are two things I can find in my size most of the time at these sales: the loudest, tackiest bra on the market in the one color combination I wouldn’t be caught half naked in, or a bra that’s just doesn’t fit my shape/support needs in a bra. (I very rarely buy full coverage bras because they tend to do funky things to my shape. It appears demi bras are starting to become a problem too, but plunge bras apparently are still a “best bet” on the shape list.)

These days, however, I have enough bras that I’m just going to rotate what I have until a few of them fall apart or I change band size so drastically that I am forced to purchase new bras. I still fit in my 38D version of this , and my second wireless IPEX bra from back when they first introduced them is still going strong. I had to retire the other one to the “quadraboob relocation center” pile.

You think anyone on Freecycle might want some used but highly rewearable bras?

I had the same problems when i was young. It’s because you actually have lagre boobs, not just fat ones.
My real bra size was 32 DDD. It was amazing what sizes some dumbbells would try to squeeze me into.
My suggestion for inexpensive bras is to check the local outlet malls.

I’ve got a couple of these, love them, very cute and sexy. Unfortunately not as durable as the pricetag would suggest.

Back in the 1990s when I started shopping at VS, I was able to get stuff that’d last quite a long time. (I think I still have underwear from 1998 that look in better condition than some of the later stuff I’ve bought from VS.) However, the quality has slowly gone down and the prices have slowly gone up. The only reason why I have so many items from VS these days is because a 20% discount for the month that I was there (including a free bra from their new collection at the time- some sort of padded Angels bra) made bra shopping more convenient and affordable. I do, however, have more panties than bras from there at this point, and the newer ones are wearing out much faster than the older ones. My best tank top that I’ve got left is from VS, and is eventually going to fall apart. They haven’t made good and affordable tank tops with built-in bras since 2001. :frowning:

You got it wrong. A woman complaining about her breasts being too big is like a guy complaining about testicles the size of watermelons.

Mighty_Girl (owner of a Uniboob [sup]TM[/sup]).

Mrs. Magill used to buy her bras at Frederick’s. they were cheap, and had sizes that would fit her.

Someone else recommended Lane Bryant. At 38DD, their lingerie line, Cacique, should have something in your size.

Yes, I have spent plenty of time looking at the bra drawers by the ottoman outside their changing rooms. Why do you ask?

Definitely Lane Bryant!

You might need to mail order or look at a store other than the one closest to you, because if it’s anything like mine, it will decide that our size isn’t profitable enough and stop carrying the size you want. (I’m a 38D, so 38DD may or may not be safe.)

The bras there are amazing. I’ve got at least 4 and I think maybe more bras from them; my mom has standing orders to buy them for me if she sees any on sale in the styles I like. (There isn’t a Lane Bryant in my college town, so this is a nice favor.)

Look, in the interest of fighting ignorance, can we get some sort of evidence of these alleged large breasts?

Pictures, perhaps?

I mean, honestly. You wouldn’t post in a thread about the other kind of puppies and not post pictures.
