Dear Og, it's me, Tashii (a mild rant about breasts)

See, in the region that I’m living (Florida), I am unusual size in just about everything. I have big feet, I’m tall, I have big boobs, and I tend to wear larger sizes to accommodate the fact that I have very dominant Scandinavian genes. It’s rare to find a nicer standalone store that actually carries my size in the store in sufficient quantity. I can’t shop in Banana Republic at the moment simply because, although they carry size 16 on the website, none of the stores I’ve ever been to will actually carry the size in the store. What good is that to me if I need to try on the clothes before I buy? At this point, I’m just glad I don’t have to go clothes shopping for a while, because it seems like every time I go, the situation gets worse and I can find fewer and fewer items that are actually flattering and that fit well.

Well here’s me in the bathtub

There is an LB on the east side of Madison, so maybe I’ll try that. Do they do professional fittings?

Also try Dillard’s, I think they have some of those in your area. I’ve been having great luck there: finding bras on their clearance rack for $7.50 up to about $22ish. And they regularly have clearance sales where they bring out the bins of stuff that haven’t sold. They have all sorts of combinations of band and cup sizes, and they aren’t all industrial looking. So far the ones I have from there have held up well.

Hopefully this link will take you to the search page for 38DD sizes, so you can get an idea of the kinds of stuff they have. I’ve noticed that the in-store selection is usually much better than the on-line selection.

Don’t count on it, and I say that as a former LB employee. We all had/have tape measures to do bra fittings but no one was formally trained in it. Also, go with how YOU FEEL the bra looks. Way too many LB employees will cram you in a bra that doesn’t fit at all… because LB didn’t have your size.*

  • I’d tell them we didn’t have their size and then give the name and general area of the bra store I go to, heh.

Thanks for the suggestions. If I feel like I am in need of more bras any time soon, I’ll go and check them out. (They apparently also sell the Keene shoes I’ve been lusting after but cannot currently afford, so I’ll more than likely be down there eventually.)

In other breast-related news, my mom has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer last week, and I’m going through the craziness that is arranging with both brothers as to how we’re going to deal with helping her through the treatment if it becomes more serious than the current “lumpectomy and radiation” route planned. Since I’m the closest child, I’m going to be driving down for her initial lumpectomy and will be among those taking care of her during that time. Between this, school, work, and my finances, I’m feeling a little overhwelmed.

Well played, ma’am.
