First of all, bringing legality into it is hilarious and pathetic on your end. You know what’s illegal? Gay marriage. You know what else is illegal? Gay men fucking in certain states. I like how you said “almost all” states. Clearly it’s enough of a problem for some to outrule it entirely. Breastfeeding in public need not be made into a nanny-state issue, it merely should be socially shunned. I’ve seen coffee shop or store employees ask a nursing mother to please stop or leave. Same with restaurant employees. I’ve left places where I’ve told the manager that the nursing mother is making me and a few friends leave. Sometimes they just nod sadly.
In certain semi-public places like a gym lockerroom (due to general nudity) it would be fine to nurse, or an airplane where you literally can’t go elsewhere. But I don’t want to be gagging on my latte while you get Junior to latch on.
Sure, maybe 1/10 mothers is super discreet like Kimstu said. Mostly mothers who nurse in public have no sense of propriety whatsoever. The same mothers who would never change a diaper in public don’t hesitate to whip out their tits.
I have breastfeeding coworkers now and in the recent past. They all abhor public pumping. Incidentally, they’re all sane, nice mothers, of the non-helicoptering variety.
