Decorating for a surprise party in the MMP

Tahred. Made it through a webinar today related to my huge spreadsheet and the steps necessary to convert it from xls to csv. Then a run in demo mode and if no issues run it live before any sales commence on 1 Aug. Lord help me make this work because as a Super User I am supposed to know this stuff.

Good start there Rosie. I sincerely hope you reach your goal and get a little stress relief.

I am ready for the weekend since I irked all last weekend but alas it is not to be. There is a Character Meet and Greet event on Sat and my teen girl is going to be Princess Belle so I am taking one for the team and irking in her place. Dagummit.

Yeah, swampy, FCM was so happy to go back to work so she could complain all day about work. What’s up with that?:wink:

Outside of getting the mail, clothing-optional day and pretty much stayed out of the heat, reading Facebook and the Dope. Looks like everyone else had an eventful day, however.

2gig, I’m not a ‘water’ person, but sounds like you and the kids had a great time. Happy for your all.

kopek, sorry about the neighbors’ kid. Sometimes crap happens, and there doesn’t seem too be much we can say or do, except say ‘I’m sorry’. And I’m sorry his life ended so tragically.

But I do love hearing about your work. Wonder how much in insurance gets paid out
each year because someone can’t pack a truck right.

Happy Orbit Completion Day,** Peaches.**

Good luck on the spreadsheet, Butters. I had a couple of Excel monsters to mind in my work days.

Red, hope you don’t have to move again for a long time. I’ve been in my place since 1997, not planing on going anywhere else soon.

peedin, hope all your investments are good for the next 3 years. One of the reasons Trump scares me is what might happen to the $$$ I still have in mutual funds.

Drae, hope you get to feeling better. I bet that does hurt some!

And to anyone I might have missed, hugs, condolences, laughter as necessary, or all three if called for.

And I’m out. The Rat abides.

Hope your broke ass feels better soon. :D:p

Sorry about the busted ass, Drae!

And about the neighbor kid, kopek.

2gig, the night on the water sounds like pure magic. I spent many happy hours on the ocean and rivers and lakes with my own father, and my memories are priceless.

Thanks for all of the birthday wishes, y’all. The fellows got home this afternoon, with a sweet ride for The Boy, plus his haul from Ikea, and nice gifts for me - a scraper paddle and a chopping attachment for my mixer. Both were things I have wanted for a while, but wouldn’t have bought for myself, so woot!

Now we’re on the desperate last-minute back-to-school weekend - clothes shopping for the big girl tomorrow*, open house for both girls tomorrow evening, final shopping trip Friday to finish outfitting the little girl and buy the school supplies that aren’t on the list. Saturday and Sunday for getting all the ducks in a row, off to school Monday morning. Oh, yeah, also need to go get tags for the new car. Drat! I’m glad I napped yesterday and today!

*This year, I’m handing her cash and dropping her off at the mall. I don’t have the patience for her style of shopping, which generally includes an hour in the dressing room, trying on 42 items, and buying a bangle bracelet. I’ll go with her for the bra fitting, for her comfort, but otherwise? No.

Weird day.

Apparently, according to a nice guy from HR I was chatting with while we were walking to the light rail station, about four of my now-former coworkers got into a brawl in the parking lot this morning, and a weapon was apparently brandished.

Last caller of the day was a thoroughly nasty old bat, of the type who seem to live on being angry. At least most of my callers were decent.

On the train home: I’m used to seeing transit officers. They’re pretty much an “every trip” event lately, checking for valid fares. City police are not that unusual a sight.

Department of Homeland Security officers ARE quite unusual. I don’t know why they were there, since it apparently didn’t involve me.

 WTF? Summer is just about ½ over up here; schools don’t go back until after Labor Day.
Many of the local towns do movies in the park in the summer, tonight was Star Wars under the stars.

In Missouri and here in CA, school starts mid-August. No idea why. Missouri might have a case with needing to make room for snow days, but since they didn’t have air conditioning they usually lost more days to keeping kids home due to heat. CA has no excuse. After Labor Day makes sense to me.

Temps here were 110 degrees or more. After we passed 110 I started getting error messages when I checked. Way-Too-Damn-Hot basically.

BLURF I don’t know why I am awake so dang early.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. Booster Club meeting after work.

Blurf.

Up, decaffeinated, sheveled (you’ll be pleased about that since I am already at irk and it’s nearly lunchtime) and snoozy. I went to the pub with a couple of friends last night, had a very pleasant evening chatting but it was a late night so I am rather tired today.

Been a bit hectic at work, we have a deadline today for printing exam papers so everyone’s busy doing that so we can deliver them to the exams office by tomorrow afternoon. Various other things have thrown spanners in the works, our virtual learning environment has been upgraded but all of our access status settings have changed so we can’t do half the things we could last week, and that’s the important things like setting up assessments and registering people on the sites.

I have grocery shopping to look forward to later, and probably laundry as well. Envy me.

I was messaging with my kid yesterday - teachers are due back to school officially on Aug 8 and the kids start on Aug 15. However, being the dedicated professional that she is, she’s going back next week to start setting up her classroom.

Damned Taz peed on my side of the bed yesterday, probably in the morning, because it was dry when I went to bed. But as I lay there and my body heat warmed the sheets, the fragrance was unmistakable. All I can figure is **FCD **didn’t get up early enough to scoop the cat box and Taz expressed his displeasure.

Guess I need to start locking the bedroom door after I leave. Damned cat.

Other than that, just another freekin’ day in Paradise! Happy Thursday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and sunny for the day. The big plan today is mowage which I shall begin in just a bit so as to get it over with before it gets too hawt. I am gettin’ majik intartoobz pizza for dindin finally. I’ve had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for pizza for a couple of weeks now.

OK, I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then, ownward to mowage and whatever else the day brings.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

I came very close to calling in sick today for no other reason than just not feeling it. But I persevered and came to work like a grownup. I already regret it.

**Drae **- adulting is tough, huh?

I have never quite decided if I love or hate that term. On the one hand, adulting is tough. Way tougher than anybody ever implied it would be. Nobody taught me how to manage a budget, do my taxes, or that you’re supposed to clean behind the fridge once in a while. But on the other hand, stop being a damn baby, get up, and go do the things you’re supposed to do. There should not be awards and congratulations for being a responsible human being. The real world doesn’t give participation trophies.

I suppose this is what it feels like to be young enough to not feel “old,” but old enough to hate everyone younger than you.

I don’t hate everyone younger than I am, but I do get a giggle when they complain about being “old” and such. But I do think the term “adulting” sums it up nicely.

There’s a speaker whose stuff is played frequently on the SiriusXM comedy channels named Steve Gilliland. He was talking about being in a Taco Bell where the guy behind the counter, a 19-y/o college kid, was complaining about being burnt out. His response was “You can’t be burnt out. I suspect you’ve never been lit!” And I think that sums it up quite well for a lot of young 'uns who grew up with helicopter parents and participation trophies.

For my part, I made sure that before my daughter left the nest, she knew how to do laundry, do dishes, cook at least some foods, handle money, understand basic auto maintenance, and how to use basic hand tools. Oh, I left some stuff for her to figure out on her own, just like I did, but at least she knew the basics, unlike one roommate who thought doing laundry meant cramming as much as possible into the machine before turning it on…

Happy Thorsday!

It looked cloudy earlier but now the sun is shining. We were supposed to have a few days of rain but it looks like that forecast has changed.

The dog is finally bad to his ‘normal’ self. He had me a little worried yesterday because he didn’t want any treats. It took three tries to get aspirin in him. He appears to have taken it but a bit later I’ll see it laying on the floor. He is such a brat.

{{{Ruble}}} sorry about your friend’s son. I can’t believe that of all drugs heroin is a problem. Didn’t anybody learn from the 60s and 70s? Don’t parents and teachers talk to kids about this? I thought the drug/alcohol talk was just as important as the sex talk.

My thinking is basically the same way; how the heck is this stuff still around? But the combination of how cheap it is around here with the basic near-self-destructive mentality that attracts a particular kind of user and its not just doing well – it’s probably doing better than ever.

Having a case of sinuses I wouldn’t wish on either presidential hopeful. Other than that its Thursday.

Lunch!!

My spousal unit just stopped by my desk. He’s here in the building for a meeting - first time he’s been in this facility.

Work is sheer tedium with some minor irritations - I wasn’t able to open one rather large drawing, but I figured out a work-around and I made a note to let the boss know about the problem. Other than that - BORING!!!

Mostly, there’s a serious lack of chocolate here. Woe!!!
