Last night I managed to get my kids out to do one of the most fun things I ever learned to do when I was growing up, spend time on the Chesapeake Bay after dark in a small boat. We went out around 6pm to go fishing and caught lots of small spot, croaker, perch and even a small skate. We catch and release so small fish are just fine.
As dusk settled we moved closer to shore and anchored near a large navigation light.
Eventually it got good and dark out. We could see thunderstorms in the far distance, lights on the horizon and little else. We dropped a fishing light into the water below the boat to attract fish. Mostly saw small crabs but a couple curious fish visited. My daughter (16) enjoyed using the spotlight to see marine life near the boat.
Finally around 10pm we went back ashore in the pitch black only occasionally using the spotlight to see markers and shore. Just as we arrived home a gentle rain started.
**Tugig **- very cool!! Did you see luminescent jellyfish? I remember seeing them once when we anchored in the eastern bay near the mouth of the Miles River.
I love being on the water at night. Even coming into the Bay on a cruise ship in the dark was an experience. Sometimes I miss having a boat.
{{{ruble}}} I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s son.
metal mouse, the screwdriver had fallen behind the shelf where it lived in the closet. But it was in the last place I looked.
2gig, I hope that your kids had as much fun on the water as I did growing up. Fishing with Dad or Grandpa and swimming was how we filled our summers.
I got the email to set up my online rent payments today. My new apartment is a different one than originally bargained for though. Apparently, the current occupant (who was supposed to be out by 23 July) won’t leave and is under eviction proceedings. The apartment that I will be in is in a better location in the complex though.
Tonight, I will be getting the electric put in my name as of the move in date. Then, a change of the apartment number for the other things that I’ve already set up. It’s getting real now.
First **FCD **calls to tell me the hospital copay is $600 higher than it was the last 2 times, and they can’t explain why. Then daughter calls because for some reason, her dental insurance dropped her name and put mine in, even tho I wasn’t anywhere on the policy. It had to do with me being on the title of her car (I need to fix that.) Then **FCD **called back, having learned that this next surgery will be more complex than the last 2, requiring more time and more people. However, we will have met our annual out-of-pocket limit, so that’s all we’ll be paying. No more for doctors or anything else, so there’s that.
Whew. Insurance is a pain, but not as much as being without it…
Je suis cranky. Some of you may or may not remember that about ten years ago, I fractured my tailbone. I don’t know if it’s some magical syzygy of humidity, heat, and my chair or if I somehow did something to it that I can’t remember for the life of me, but my tailbone is killing me today.
Glad to hear it was a good one. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little time to oneself.
{{{Ruble}}} sorry to hear about the kid. It’s hard when someone you know takes that path. So much potential gone.
Sari sorry to hear about Sah-dog. I hope he gets to feeling better soon. How is it going with fraidy-cat?
Tugig glad you had an awesome day. it sounds lovely. I have jealous.
Red congrats on the apartment.
FCM good luck with the surgery. I don’t recall if you’ve mentioned what they’re doing this time. I hope FCD sails through it.
I shall shortly be off to get my hairs cut. I think I’m going red too. Daughter is coming along, and shall be dying the tips of her hair some non-natural color. Blue perhaps. She won’t let me call her Bluebell though.
Other than that, I need to sort through some papers for our accountant and continue to chase the floor guy. It looks like we’ll be heading up to Oregon on August 6. I’m starting to work on the utilities and so on for that house. Almost there!
**sunny **- he’shaving a lumbar spinal fusion - the 3rd. That’s in addition to the 2 cervical spinal fusions done some years back. My poor sweetie is just falling apart.
On the plus side, my daughter said she may be able to take the day off when our cruise stops in Port Canaveral and she’ll meet up with us. Fingers crossed…
I just got a call from the maker of the semi-experimental chemo/immunotherapy drug DH was on. Seems they’re at the phase in a drug’s development and approvals that they need to track every user, especially any that had a poor outcome.
For those that don’t know, “poor outcome” is a euphemism for death in the medical world. :dubious:
At this point, they were interested in when he started/stopped the med, how soon after that he passed, and if he was on anything else at the time, presumably to say “It could have been that stuff!” when the investigators get curious. I was able to confirm the dates and the name of the oncologist, and for now, at least, that’s all they seemed to need.

Progressive DDD sucks, and there’s been some evidence that fusions may only aggravate the problem by making the next segment of the spine move in directions or amounts never intended. I wish it was possible to pick one’s parents and find ones that don’t carry a family history of crappy cartilage, and I wish more insurance carriers would be better at covering disk replacement. Gentle hugs to him and you.
**gotti **- I have to wonder if disk replacement would be the better choice, but I suspect this doctor doesn’t do that. **FCD **will be talking to him on Monday, tho, and he plans to ask about that.
I need to accomplish mowage tomorrow. ICK! However, I want da yahd to be lookin’ OK on Sattidy as I have been told, told mind you, that I am bein’ feted out at the cee-mint pond. Also, I am not to lift a finger to help except to mow and go get ice from over to the church house. Chores. I am bein’ celebrated, yet, I have chores. Such a pitiful life of woe is mine!
Well the washer/dryer is working. Well it’s giving a few fits and starts, but it has been a while since it ran(5 years?) I have Italian Chicken marinating in the fridge.
Technically aren’t you still on vacation till the 29th? Then you will be in retirement.

Yay for almost being moved, red!
2Gig, glad the night sailing was a success.
FCM, and he’ll have his Nigerian prince friend send you a check.
Happy Birthday Peaches!
Well this has been a busy odd day. Thanks for the hugs everyone. Ya’ll been so busy I’ll probably be reading for a while while watching The Outer Limits. You would be surprised how well that show goes with the SDMB. Or not surprised.
