Dede Robertson died

I put this in The BBQ Pit because MPSIMS has a rule against religious jabs in breaking news.

News here:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Dede Robertson, the wife of religious broadcaster Pat Robertson and a founding board member of the Christian Broadcasting Network, died Tuesday at her home in Virginia Beach, the network said in a statement.

So she was a co-founder of “Christian” Broadcasting Network. That’s enough to say, well, some un-Christian comments about her. I recall only tuning into that station once and I was appalled at the hatred and bigotry, not to mention the twisting of Scripture, on display. And her “dearly” departed husband of The 700 Club fame was certainly not an example of good Christian ministry.

Pat Robertson is still very much alive, and was still hosting The 700 Club until late last year.

Thanks for the correction.

Hey, we can call it wishful thinking.

I believe I’m mature enough to set my petty bullshit aside and – sincerely – wish their loved ones …

Amen.

That’s hilarious!

Speaking of tots…

The normalization of cannabis use is amazing. When I was a kid, weed was a drug, right there with cocaine and heroin.

Today, my local grocery store (Giant Eagle) is giving out a free order of tots if you present a coupon, which I received via email, in recognition of today being 4/20.

It’s cute/subtle. Marijuana is never mentioned. It’s all wink, wink.

OK back to dissing the dead lady.

I think you mean his re-animated, desiccated corpse is still hosting The 700 Club.

Sorry - that’s very mean. But then so is Robertson, who has made a career bilking frightened elderly and other credulous people out of their money and poisoning the political landscape with nonsensical quasi-religious bullcrap.

I’m sorry for his loss at a personal level, but I still don’t like him.

In 2013 I was still doing in-home hospice caregiving. It was rare to be in a home that didnt have Fox News or whatever that vile show Pat Robertson was always hosting on. April 15, 2013, was no different. That day ol’ Pat spent the entire fucking day (or the many hours of if I was forced to listen to him, anyway) preaching about how that days events in Boston were a sign that God hates what our society has become, hates the gays, hates the dark-skinned furriner in the white house, hates… well everything, apparently. It was our fault the bombing happened and our fault all those innocent people died but waitaminnit now they werent really innocent because they probably loved gays and Obama and… on. And on. And on. And on. IOW God did it but its our fault for making him angry.

Robertson a truly vile, repugnant human being. To paraphrase Clarence Darrow, while I dont exactly wish for his death, it’ll be happy for day when I can read his obituary.

‘You can safely assume you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.’

God knows what he’s doin’
He wrote this book here
An’ the book says: “He made us all to be just like him”
So, if we’re dumb
Then God is dumb
(an’ maybe even a little ugly on the side)

It is poor form to speak ill of the dead, so please imagine me performing an interpretive dance I call ‘Schadenfreude’.

One of the big drawbacks with being an atheist is that unlike those who believe in an afterlife we don’t get the satisfaction that comes with a final I told you so.

Hehe, yep. As a buddy of mine keeps pointing out, we used to hide in the woods to smoke a bowl, spray ozium to mask the odor, use Visine and breath mints. Now we sneak a hit off a pen in Target.
