Default style/format in Word 2007

I hope this hasn’t been asked before. I’m getting out of memory errors when I try to use the search.

When I open a new Word document, I want it to default to Times New Roman, 12pt. I also want Times New Roman and specific indentation for endnotes/footnotes and bibliography defaults. I have tried the Quick Style thing and set as default and so on, but it doesn’t stick. When I’ve set it all up and go to make a new footnote, it’s back to Calibri or whatever stupid font and the wrong indentation. When I update the bibliography, it reverts that, too. At the very least I want it to be the default for the document I’m working on, but even better would be to set it as the program’s default.

How do I do it? :frowning:

I get really frustrated with this sort of thing.

Not sure about the footnotes stuff, but to set the default font for all newly opened documents, do this:

  • Open the Font dialog by pressing Alt-O, then F
  • Choose your desired font/size
  • Click “Default”
  • Click “Yes” when prompted that you are changing the NORMAL template

I’ll see if I can figure out footnotes on the windows machine…
