Did they just have a sassy [del]Black[/del] alien maid?
As soon as I saw that they were rolling out a video game concurrently with the show, I assumed that both were likely to be terrible. (I realize this kind of thing is more common in Japan, but who really thinks SyFy could pull something like this off?) Between that and all the ads, I figure it probably has three weeks, unless everything is already in the can and they’d lose more money not airing the episodes.
Aliens and humans can interbreed?
Crap.
“She looks like a pure blood.”
I must be watching the wrong channels. Only saw commercials for this while watching Face Off.
Terrible, just terrible.
From the horribly-filmed miniatures, the bad CGI, the 8 ‘races’ of aliens, who all just happen to be humanoid, the inexplicable giant…bugs (??), to the dichotomy of advanced technology and weaponry while existing in a circa 1940s Mad-Maxish dystopia 30 some-odd years after the invasion, and the hackneyed, predictable story lines and character archetypes, I rolled my eyes so often that I am surprised I didn’t damage my vision.
Yeah, no, I don’t think I will be investing myself in this program.
Yep. That someone thought this was a good idea astounds me.
Altho it’s true that “humanoid” may be the “go to” shape for intelligent beings, even Farscape had Rygel & Pilot.
I saw 5 seconds of it and rolled *my *eyes with the “punk “ aliens with modern ornamental piercings.
The show/game itself doesn’t look promising. I wish I was surprised, but I wrote off SyFy when they changed their name.
Bear McCreary’s score, on the other hand, is awesome.
I watched the pilot. It was… actually better than I thought it would be. But not nearly better enough.
Oh, well. Anything else on the horizon that looks interesting?
I got to play around with the game a bit during SXSW last month and it is actually pretty decent. Lute Skywatcher had a very accurate description of the game up-thread. The only issue I have is dealing with how the video game affects the show. I am still not entirely sold on them being so closely related but SYFY might actually be able to pull this off. I will probably give it a few weeks before I check out the show though.
Truely non-humanoid aliens are too expensive to have as regular characters and too hard for most audiences to relate to. Farscape did amazing things with puppetry, but even Pilot still had to have a face. The makeup looks pretty good, but the Indogene look like a ripoff of the Suliban. I’ll keep watching; there’s a 13 episode order so we’ll at least get whatever arc they planned for the 1st season.
I waited until they began showing wrestling.
We’re consumers of science fiction; we crave believable non humanoid aliens. And if they had to be humanoid, the best they could come up with is Odo with white, cross-hatched skin?
And why is everyone so filthy? Yes, I understand it’s some kind of mining town, but I just can’t get over the advanced technology juxtaposed with ridiculously unwashed citizens and dirt roads…inside a complex completely surrounded by an impenetrable (well, unless someone disables it…saw that coming a mile away) ion (or whatever advanced technology it uses) fence.
I thought they should have more technology in Firefly. Wooden cellphone towers. Laptops held together with duct tape.
Ugh, that was awful, but not surprising that it was.
I guess there is no more BSG genius at SyFy.
I would much rather have a season or 2 of backstory - the invasion, the war - get me to that ‘defiance’ moment - give me a reason to give a crap about these charectors.
I thought it was OK. I’ll keep checking it out to see what’s up with it.
Exactly.
I love sy-fy, and was hoping this would be good. When they were in the rover, the lead kept jerking the wheel from left to right. It was obvious he wasn’t driving. It ruined it for me. Also, I like aliens to appear more intelligent. These were boring. No more for me.
I liked it enough to watch more. Characters were stock cliches but I enjoyed the setting and want to know more.
