I’m not a chronic FB user, so I’m not sure what the hell is going on.
Once or twice I’ve noticed that a comment I’ve made on someone’s status is gone the next time I log on. A couple of times I’ve gotten a PM that references the comment I’ve made, so its not like I just imagined writing the comment…
Whatever has been deleted isn’t nasty or rude so I can’t figure out why someone would delete it if indeed it was deleted. What gives? If its deleted does that mean that I an delete a comment made on one of MY posts? How?
Also, I’ve sent friend requests to people who I never get a confirmation from but now I’m getting their status updates, pic posts, etc. They aren’t on my friend list and I can’t comment on their statues or send a PM, but I can SEE whatever they post. WTF??
Anybody smarter than I willing to tell me what the hell is up with my FB? If makes any difference I use the mobile page on an Android, but these problems appear when I use the desktop site, too.
But yes, you control everything on your own wall. If someone posts one of the millions of “You just received a pile of tacky crap in Wacky Fun Game!” you can feel free to delete it at your leisure. Or those wonderful “Your friend just answered questions about you!”. Or say you post about having a raging headache and one of your friends writes “You should smoke a big bowl of this great weed I have here!” You may wish to delete that before your boss reads it. All in all, it boils down to personal preference as to what you want to keep. Some folks are very picky about keeping their walls clean so they will delete everything they don’t post themselves. You are likely dealing with this type, someone obsessive about maintaining a clean wall.
The other issue about being able to see pending friends is just one of those weird behaviors that comes from FB’s elastic privacy settings. FB wants to share everything about you and likely will by default unless you tweak it to not do so. Therefore, your pending friends probably have their profiles wide open, allowing you to receive updates on them even though you aren’t officially friends. It’s not a bug, it’s a feature!
So if I sent someone a friend request six months ago, and I’ve been getting status updates since then but can’t comment or PM them, it means they never accepted my request, huh?
FB sucks.
Hoping Google+ is better. Wishing it was open to the masses already.
Depending on their settings, yes. A couple years ago I [del]stalked[/del] sent a friend request to an ex girlfriend. She never accepted, but even now I still see when she changes her picture - and I can’t seem to do anything to remove her from the feed either. If her settings were more lax, I guess I’d see more of what she’s up to.
Pretty much any new social media site with a chance of surviving will allow users to control what others can see and post. The problem is not in the software, but in the people you choose to associate with.
One other possibility is your method of accessing Facebook. From my phone I sometimes do not see things that I know are there and that show up when I access via my laptop.
