Deleting IE History

How do I delete all IE history? While “Delete Files” under Tools/Internet Options purged most everything, the URL bar still has cues to some sites if you put in the first letter or two–not all of them, but some (and not even necessarily frequently visited ones). Is there any way to delete these individually–line item by item so to speak?

“. . . Who’s been looking for Girls Gone Wild? . . .”

Clear history should remove those in the bar as well.

Unless you are talking about the ones inside pages like google or yahoo.

There should be a box market “Delete History”, make sure that is checked when you hit the Delete Files button.

If you mean the ones Google suggests - they are tied to google’s web site and come from your IP address; if you have ie8, rightclick on the little down-arrow beside the magnifying glass on the extreme right by the search box - select “manage search providers”, if serachs uggestions are enabled, right click on the word “enabled” and “turn off suggestions”.

If you know how to not crash your computer using registry editing, run regedit - search for the offending string - and it will likely show in the list of history items for IE - delete the numbered item key containing it.

Clear History didn’t do it–or, not completely. This isn’t the Google/Yahoo prompt, but the main URL address bar. The number of ones that are left I can count on my fingers, but I promised to clear it completely before returning it and would like to know how to eliminate those last few stragglers…

Oh, and this is IE6, btw.

Use ccleaner.

In XP find Control Panel. On the first tab, under Browsing History click “delete browsing history upon exit.” This will clear your history each time you close IE browser.

When IE is open, under Safety, Delete Browsing History, click the preserve favorites, delete temporary internet files, cookies, and history.

If you do this in both the Internet Explorer task bar under Safety, and also in the Control Panel then all the things of most concern should get dumped each time you close IE.

I don’t know how it works with Windows 7, but you should be able to find the same options.

They wouldn’t happen to be sites that you have bookmarked, would they? I believe IE searches both your history and your bookmarks when it pops up sites as you type.
