Dems Blow Easy Victory in '08 Already

Nope, I’ll keep our anniversary to myself, because it’s a different flavor of crap. But let me just say I’m a little truculent about government waste and as such can’t believe the travesty of the Coffin Soup that is our Gulf Coast. $25 million (a fraction of what anybody running’ll spend) is a big fucking healing gumbo and as usual, our leaders just don’t ever get it. The system’s fucked.

I haven’t. I did, however promise my Ma a Mardis Gras before she dies but I can’t take her to a war zone.

Didja read where I threw it out there as a sop to all the handwringers that would be screaming that they couldn’t hold it there due to hurricanes?

Meh. If the Dems had wanted it in New Orleans, they’d have found a way to finance it so that the city didn’t have to cough up too much money upfront. IIRC, the conventions are funded by the big corporations to some extent as a way to curry favor, so it’s not like the DNC would have to pony up all that cash themselves.

Voyager, Yeah I know one chain wouldn’t be able to host everyone, but I’m damn sure not going to go digging around to find which chains would be most likely to have hotels in NOLA and some other city. Nor does it seem impossible to me that the parties can’t shift the convention locations in under 4 years time. If it were impossible, then don’t you think that the GOP would have said that they’d picked NYC before 9/11 happened to rebut those who claimed it was only a crass political ploy to curry votes?

Frank, you’re right and I forgot that it had been defeated. It would be better anyway if we ditched the whole electorial college system. As it stands now, if I’m a Republican in a state that’s heavily Democratic (or visa versa), what’s the point in me casting a vote for a Presidential candidate of my party, since the electorial college renders it moot?

Oh, and by chance, I happened to catch this program on NPR today. According to the guests, the money that the Feds have given to NOLA to help repair things is merely the annual payment to the Army Corps of Engineers (who admitted that they screwed up the construction of the levees and that’s why they failed, but can’t be sued for this due to Federal law) to cover the operating expenses associated with the levees. IOW, NOLA didn’t get dick!

I’m not sure the mayor of New Orleans would be up for a week of “Look how pathietic this city is! It’s a disgrace!” His agenda, after all, is to make NO out to be a place people want to go, and start businesses in, not a charity case. They’re better off having a Denver mayor who is grateful and can call the activists in his city and say, “You’ve only been out two evenings this week? I really need twenty-four hours a week from you.”

Last summer would have been questionable as the carriers were not servicing the airport with the numbers they are now. Plus, summer in New Orleans is not the best time to be here.

That said, the city would easily be able to handle a big convention now, and in '08 would have no unusual problems.

Oh please. Yes, there was a major flood, but nowhere did the water sit for two years. Stick your hyperbole up your ass, but be sure to move your head out of the way first. And if your decision is between New Orleans and Branson, well, you do the math.

Yeah I read where you said you made the idiotic, delusional statements as a sop. Do you think a “sop” gives you license to lie or do you actually think double booking the convention is not much trouble?

I think I speak for everyone when I say “Meh” to your whole piece of crap thread. Maybe someone can start a “Does the location matter?” or “Could N.O. host a major convention?” thread in GD to ponder the tangentially related interesting concepts here. Only a moron arm-chair quarterback like yourself thinks the Dems had a sure lock on 2008 if they’d only started the campaign in New Orleans.

Hey, it’s not rocket science. If someone really wanted to do it, they could. In all the conventions I’ve dealt with everyone went through the same booking agent, so it’s not like you’d have to coordinate 35K guests, 35K booking agents, 500 hotels and the like.

This coming from the guy who’s so pathetic that his only hobby consists of keeping track of who said what to whom on the snark boards and compiling all that information on his home page. If my thread is so damned “meh” why do bother posting in it? Hell, if I’m such a moron, why don’t you put me on your ignore list and then you won’t have to read anything I say ever again? Oh, right, because then you’d have to find something productive to do with yourself.

As for “arm chair quarterbacking,” so what? 99% of the shit discussed on this board is that. If you dislike it so much, why do you continue to post here, and why to you continue to track it for the snark boards? Like that shit isn’t arm chair quarterbacking. People who don’t have the balls to post shit here, or who couldn’t follow the rules so they got banned, but are so obsessed with the place that they can’t move on with their lives are somehow better than the people here? I think not. Shit, half the time they can’t even get their facts straight about who said what and why, here. But they damn sure got all the answers don’t they? Why don’t you stop obsessing over the 21st Century version of the junior high slam book and do something with your life? Or is that too hard for you? Are you afraid of the “big bad world”? Scared that you might get your widdle feewings hurt?

Whatever are you talking about? I have no homepage listed…

And I said MORON armchair quarterbacking, which makes you stand out spectacularly from the other 99%.

Ah, so again you take the cowards way out and instead of owning up to it, you pulled it from your profile. This is the page of which I speak. Oh, BTW, you forgot to remove it from your profile over at that “purple” board, but really, all anyone has to do is plug your user name into google and they’ll find it, no sweat, so I wouldn’t bother.

Again, coming from a coward (a stupid one at that), it’s “meh.” If I’m so troubling to you. cloudhelmut why don’t you simply put me on your ignore list?

Not really cowardly, just playing by the rules. I see you bravely choose not to - time to check your levels, imho.

And why would I ignore you? You’re nothing if not interesting, which by design I cannot say for myself (beat you to it :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Horseshit. How I found that page was by clicking on your profile here. So you can pull it and act all innocent if you want, we’ll see how many people buy it.

You know, you could try to experience the world yourself, rather than living it vicariously through others. But that’s too much trouble for you, isn’t it?

I honestly don’t see how that is true.

I am not trying to act innocent, I do not try to hide my identity on my website but I have been instructed not to talk about my website on this board and it is is not my “homepage” as far as this place is concerned. I would suggest you let those instructions guide you as well, despite how awesome a dig you think it is at me to bring it up.

Oh wait, it’s true because you clicked a long time ago. Yes, the link was removed quite a while ago. Sorry I took the cowardly way out, buddy.

Wow, just wow. You remind me of a cow-orker I once knew who had a bird tattooed on her middle finger and would “show it” to people. When she got called on the carpet about it, she swore up and down that she had “no idea it meant anything obscene.” “Just collect bookmarks”, my ass. And given the smackdown you got from Lynn in the thread you linked to, I have a hard time believing that you “forgot” about ever having it listed here. Tell, me are you a shit salesman IRL? If not, you’ve missed your calling I’d say.

You mean those boards actually exist? It was never just paranoia after all? People actually do gather at anonymous boards and hash out how to return here and execute the maximum possible trollage or pile-on?

Holy fucking shit. Those people honestly need a really good ass whuppin’.

Its this summer that Microsoft intended to have the convention there and cancelled. June 07.

Of course, the whole reason MS announced New Orleans in June of 06 to hold their largest convention was to support New Orleans (and get the PR for it). So cancelling it was a big deal and they lost some face.

If MS can’t hold TechEd there now due to logistics, there are no guarentees it will be big convention ready by 08.

TechEd was in Boston last year. Yep, major convention right in the middle of the Big Dig. If MS could pull that off (although the buses kept getting lost for the first two days), NOLA should have been possible, but it wasn’t.

Good one. I rate it a 9. A little too strong though, hence the deduction.

I’d love a cite that it was logistics that has kept MS away. I had to organize a work conference here last October, and while it was a relatively small group, I had to overcome a lot of resistance due to the beliefs held by many out-of-towners that the airport didn’t work, that there wouldn’t be adequate transportation, that the hotels were still flooded, that the restaurants and French Quarter were still closed, and that the drug crime was so rampant that it would be dangerous for them to come. There were some higher-ups that bought into that idea as well, but we persisted, the conference was held, and people had a great meeting and good time.

It wouldn’t surprise me that MS’ decision is based less on the ability of New Orleans to host them, and more on their unfounded opinions of how things really are down here. Opinions shared by many in this thread. Most of which don’t fit with the reality that I experience living here.

Well, different strokes and all like that. But I know that when I’ve had to spend time in Branson, the decompression period involves scourging, purging and listening to lotsa punk.

All in all, I’d rather be in Pueblo.
