There’s a tremendously sexy porn actress named Isis Love. I wonder if she’s getting grief over her name.
I used to live on a street called Isis Avenue. Some of my neighbors were from the Middle East. I’m pretty sure they weren’t terrorists, though.

Per your own Wiki link, they aren’t recently formed at all, but started in 1999. Except they were under a different name then:
(It goes on to describe the further name changes and corporate mergers)
They should just pick a name and stick with it, IMO. Don’t they understand the importance of brand recognition?
In this attack they’ve had a brick thrown through their window. They’ve had a few earlier unspecified instances. Fixing such damage is a nuisance, but probably far less expensive than changing all their stationary, business forms, ads, publicity, etc.
From the news article:
I think it would be far better to start using a different name for IS/ISIL/ISIS - especially one they hate - than for businesses that happen to share one of the names to change them.
“Daesh” has a nice ring of evil to it as well. It rolls off the tongue with contempt very well.
I don’t even know how one is supposed to pronounce “Daesh”, as I’ve already heard 4 different pronunciations of it in news media.
A: One syllable, same as the word “dash”
B: One syllable, rhymes with “posh”
C: Two syllables, “da-eesh”
D: Two syllables, “da-esh” (basically a little more drawn out version of B)
E: Other?
Next they’ll change their name to Walmart, or Washington - just to fuck with our heads.
“Our mission: to degrade and destroy Walmart.”
It’s time to stop dumbing down things that might confuse morons. They’ve become too bold and demanding.
I think of 1999 as being recent. Certainly a lot more recent than ancient Egypt.
This also:
The news did it explain it well. The name predates the terrorist group. The people involved with the store have nothing to do with terrorism. Only morons connect the two.
By the way, do you happen to know what’s involved in a business changing its name? It’s certainly not something that’s done on the fly. Even if it were, how often should one business have to change names because of the actions of other people?
Happens all over. There was an unfortunate paediatrician somewhere in Britain whose brass plate had all sorts of torchburners outside her front door shouting for her head at the height of public concern over child abuse stories in the press.
Post 30, Patrick.
The Downton Abby people were getting grief all last season on Twitter from morons who thought they named the dog after the terrorist groups.
Isis the Dog eventually got cancer and died. She was pretty old, in the show, in terms of dog years.. Hugh Bonneville called people unkind names for suggesting it was because of Daesh.

We can all be thankful they aren’t called the Syrian Division of Militant Bombings.
According to the Social Security Admin., “Isis” is the 706th most popular female name in the US, with 396 children being named that in 2014. Unless I’m reading this wrong, the first time the name was big enough to track was 2000. It has been trending down the past few years, however.
Correction: the trend report I was looking at only goes back to 2000, regardless of name.
It’s not a new phenomenon. Wasn’t there a character in Julius Caesar who was attacked due to his name being similar to another’s?
Considering the proposals of several Republican candidates regarding Muslims, they might consider Great Organization of the Prophet.
It’s unconscionable that this bookstore be vandalized for being named after the Egyptian goddess.
The poor owner does not deserve the hassle and expense.

Mockery seems to be in order, though.
