Denver bookstore vandalized because it's called "ISIS"

Or their bitter rivals, the Bomber Division of Syrian Militants.

About 20 years ago I had a cat named Isis. I named her after a stripper who was friends with my neighbour.

We should be pissed that a terror group has expropriated a perfectly lovely name.

The article doesn’t make it clear that the vandalism occurred because the bookstore was named Isis. Maybe it’s a coincidence, and someone put a brick through the window because they just think it’s a shitty bookstore.

Splitters!

Cinna the poet, mistaken for Cinna the senator, who was one of the conspirators against Caesar. This may or may not be historically accurate.

Shit, that’s the name of my cupcake store!

The vandals were stupid morons, but it is an unfortunate name these days. Reminds me of the Ayds Diet Plan in the 1980s.

My wife had a real cool bumper sticker on her truck, “ISIS, ISIS! RA! RA! RA!” that she has recently covered up with some other shit. It was on there for 15 years! (This is the 300k+ Nissan)

The terrorists have fucking won.

I bought something from that bookstore years ago and received catalogs. I thought it was an odd name for a terrorist organization when that later came to be, but never guessed it would come to this.

Smart move (sorry to say).

A colleague of mine has a beautiful 6-year old, lovely girl, named Isis.

I sometimes wonder what’s going to happen at school :frowning:

The River Thames is known as the Isis in Oxford. There are lots of local organisations that use the name.

Huh. I did not know that. Here’s the story behind it.

There’s a new-age place in Northern California called Isis Oasis - they do all sorts of Egyptian worship stuff as well as running an animal sanctuary. We got to play with ocelots there a few years ago. I hope they’re not getting hassled about their name.

Not quite the same thing, but shortly before the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004 killed so many people including in southern Thailand, a fancy new Japanese restaurant opened in Bangkok called … Tsunami.

Isis Dreamcatcher combo above my bed.

Looking out the window of the bus the other day, I noted a building downtown that has a sign proclaiming it to be “The 1515”. Clearly it’s owned by ISIS. I await the egg throwing.
