Der Trihs, do you realize how goofy you come across?

I’m more annoyed by the posts that are basically poking him with a stick than I am outraged by the things DerTrihs posts. I realize it’s damning him with faint praise, but he’s far from the most irritating poster we have here.

People who compare Shodan with Der Trihs just make me shake my head in amazement. Shodan may be a little blunt with his opinions, but a lot of people here are. I have never seen the kind of hatred and bile from him that DT spews.

But to be fair, I’ve never seen the kind of just plan stupid from **Der Trihs ** that I see regularly from Shodan.

Also, **Der Trihs ** doesn’t spew a bunch of condescending, “I heard it on talk radio so it must be true” bullshit and then sign off with “Regards”, which frankly sets my teeth on edge.

Oh, what was his name-Aldebaran? Or was that someone else?

ETA: Which one was Justthink? I remember him, but I can’t remember what his schtick was.

For what it’s worth, I agree with Der Trihs quite a lot, but it frustrates me that he won’t explain his views beyond “religion murders”, and when confronted with an argument in the other direction responding with “yeah huh.”

I don’t think that’s a fair point at all. Shodan backs up what he says…DT just says whatever he wants, and doesn’t even try to back it up.

Hmm. Well, being called evil sets my teeth on edge. What is more reprehensible, signing off posts in a style you don’t like, or condemning half the country as nothing better than murderers?

Well, I guess I have about 999 stick-pokings to go to match DT…although mine are much tamer and respectful than others. But hey, to each his/her own…thanks for noticing!

Whoa, just a second now, think before you hi-jack! This thead is about DT, and about how goofy he is (which may be least appropriate adjective evah!…) After a few hundred expressions of feverish loathing, the thread will end. Get started on Shodan

Won’t somebody please think of the hamsters?

How about the post that initiated this thread?

Then you haven’t been paying attention. **DT **commonly cites things he’s alegedly heard other people or that he knows lots of people who hold such views. If the “regards” irritates you about Shodan, that’s a different issue.

Aldebaran! Yes that was him. One of my favourite banned posters.

Banned name!

I’d like a cite that that is his name. Please don’t tell me your post is your cite.

I don’t recall for certain whether it was Der Trihs who told us this or whether it was a conclusion that I came to based on some of the training that I’ve had in communication (specifically) and in psychology and education in general. But I believe that he does have a disorder that affects his communication.

I would not want to rely solely on my observations made over a message board, so if this wasn’t something that Der Trihs mentioned in his posts, I may be completely in error. Either way, no insult is implied in my mentioning this.

I think I would like him too if he didn’t continue to mischaracterize a group that I belong to and ascribe evil, misery and death as its only product.

It would be helpful if he could understand the concept of “shades of gray” and get away from black and white thinking.

Little Nemo, how can DT represent the extreme left with his hatred of Communism? (Or am I wrong about that?)

Can anyone produce an example of Der Trihs ever admitting that he was mistaken? I wonder if his ego doesn’t allow him to take that step or if he simply can never see that he made an error in logic.

Der Trihs is more extreme than I am. For example, I don’t think all the U.S. troops and contractors in Iraq should die. They should just leave. Also, I don’t believe (as he once stated) that the United States should sink under the ocean, if for no other reason than the fact all my stuff is there. Also, I don’t think the average theist is evil, just ignorant of certain facts and a little deluded.

You’re kidding, right? Have you read the quote listed in the OP?

Must resist… struggles… cant hold it back… eyes bulging… fighting… cant stop it, its bigger then I am…

MY POST IS MY CITE!

ah, that felt good.

Read my post #49 and tell me where you disagree on the subject of fundies. DT is being hyperbolic and going too far, but the basic idea is not irredeemably stupid.

Not that he needs my, or anyone else’s defense, but count me as one who holds many, if not most, of Der Trihs’ positions and consider him a great asset to this board. I obviously haven’t read all, or even most, of his posts, but I haven’t found the thrust of any of his arguments to be wrong or stupid.

I think what it boils down to is certain folks here simply can’t stomach consistent, persistent, unapologetic, unrepentent liberalism which, when presented in an ostensibly abrasive manner, give neocon- and social conservative-leaning posters the vapors. Certainly Der Trihs uses somewhat hyperbolic styling in presenting his positions, but that shouldn’t detract the intelligent reader from understanding the core of his thesis.

Do any of you who call his posts stupid have proof that his assertions/opinions are wrong, or are they simply so anathema to your own political, social, sexual, or religious biases that you just knee-jerk anything he writes regardless of merit?

Sure, **Der Trihs ** can be repetitive, but not unduly so in my opinion. We all know where he stands on most issues and I, for one, find it invigorating to know the SDMB has someone as consistent as he is, and one who eagerly expresses positions I’m sure many here hold, to varying degrees, yet are not willing to stick their precious necks out for fear of a perceived inevitable lop.

His schtick (besides trumpeting suicide as his preferred means of conflict resolution) was long, dense posts which were not necessarily completely devoid of semantic content, but could often seem as though they had been generated by a phrasemaking program – his style was briefly referred to as hinking.

By the way, I realize I didn’t make it clear earlier – I’m another one who likes Der Trihs.

Maybe you should read a bit more. And it is very possible for one to find the “thrust” (the main point) of one of his opinions not stupid, idiotic, or insane but to find his particular argument for those things to be so in spades.

So, he is the real voice of liberalism? Good, thanks for straightenting that out.

Uh, most people who slap him about the ears are people on his side. How could you have read even this thread and not have realized that? After realizing the severity of his break with the real world I love to sit back and and see what insane looks like on a computer screen. It’s the same perverse entertainment I get when seeing Charles Manson interviewed.

Tell me your kidding. Please. And if you can’t, think about it for as long as it takes for you to come to that conclusion. Look, I may have the basic premise that abortions should be illegal. Not my opinion, but some have it and it is rational and defendable. But if my particular argument in the larger debate is that everyone who has an abortion should be killed, or anyone who tries to get an abortion should be killed, or anyone who works to make abortions safe and legal should be killed, I’ve taken myself out of the debate. I’ve made myself irrelevant, and a joke. To make matters worse, I would actually taint the valid arguments of others who are arguing for the same basic position, i.e., abortion should be illegal. Which is precisely why so many posters on the left have a problem with him and repeatedly plead with him to shut the fuck up.

 Again, look to the many who slap him and tell him to shut up. Many of them are people* on his side,* as far as the crux of the debate. There are many posters who have offered well-reasoned arguments for any of the basic positions he holds. And because they do they are seen to be reasonable and intelligent. Not the opposite. See how that works?

I’ll give him that he is honest. I do appreciate that. But being consistent when it comes to blithering like an idiot or catching your dick in your zipper every time you pull it up, isn’t something to be so admired. Fred Phelps is pretty consistent, too.
