I’ve admired him since his days as Mr. Lyle on The Pretender (why are the bad guys always hotties?), and he’s even hotter on this show. . .the scenes with him and Teri Hatcher at the end of this week’s episode are relatively tame, but there’s something about that kiss up against the wall. . .damn, I think I need to take a cold shower. . .
Okay, that was a both aggravating and suspenseful.
Just so I don’t piss anyone off who reads the thread before seeing the show
When I first heard someone was going to die I thought it would be nosey Ms. Huber, as the most likely writer of the note to Mary Alice. Then everyone starting touting that it would be one of the “Desperate Housewives”, a regular, and showing pics of the four main characters and Edie. If Ms Huber was in that montage she was in it so fast as to be subliminal.
Things started pointing toward Edie, she’s a regular but not one of the main four who are heavily involved in various storylines, and it looked like she had a hit man on her. But then in this episode they managed to make us think it could be anyone of them, which made it suspenseful.
Susan falls through the floor, will she fall all the way and die? Mike comes home - “oh no, is he really a bad guy and will he kill her for finding his secret?”
Lynette’s playing with uppers and downers and about to flip out. She drops her kids off and drives away. “Oh no, she’s going to kill herself!”
Gabrielle is talking with the priest and asking if she can wait until she’s seventy to repent. Priest advises against waiting in case something happens to her. She displays hubris by doubting that anything could happen to her. “Oh no, she’s going to fall down an elevator shaft in the hospital! Yay!” (okay so I don’t like her much.)
-Edie saves her own skin by pointing them back to Ms. Huber. Paul (?) decides not to kill her but to talk with her and ends up killing her himself anyway. Back to the beginning, it was Ms. Huber after all.
Okay it was a bit of a thrilling ride but I found the promotional ads misleading. But nothing new there, right?
Wow, Dex has some familiarity with Cary Grant’s oeuvre – who’da thunk?
Good ep – lots of stuff happening.
I’m not going to spoilerbox stuff – Left Coasters, avert your eyes –
I really liked how the gals rallied around Lynette. I will be curious to see what happens with Gabrielle and Carlos. Good for Susan for going back to talk to Mike again. Bree, Bree, Bree – yes, your son is a scary little psychopath.
Meh, what do you expect when your son comes home drunk after hitting someone with his car, and you cover for him? If anyone in my family had been that stupid, my dad would have frog-marched him out to the police officers waiting outside, instead of letting the car get stolen.
However Bree’s family has made a big mistake, in that they never declared their mustang stolen.
Actually, the indentity of the murdered housewife was obvious to me long before the episode started. Remember: TV networks hype their shows, and often their promos are pure misdirection (In this year’s West Wing promos, for instance, they showed the scene of Toby resigning as though it had something to do with the plot, whereas in the show, it was just Toby playing a joke).
Once you realize that, you eliminate the big stars and one person is left – one who is generally pretty unpleasant overall and who had already tried to blackmail someone.
Does anyone know what Ms Huber was talking about when she was saying how Mary Alice did something to a baby? Did she have an abortion or something? That’s the only thing I can guess.
What’s the deal with Mike? Is he an undercover cop? What’s he looking for?
I’ve only seen the last 3 and a half shows, but I like it and plan to watch the rest.
In a previous episode, we saw Mary Alice’s husband dig through the concrete bottom of his pool and remove a box that had a teddy bear painted on it, which he subsequently wrapped in plastic and tossed in a nearby body of water, after which it resurfaced and was found by the cops.
There’s also been mention by Mary Alice’s son of someone named “Dana” which is assumed to be a dead infant. Personally, I doubt we’re talking about an aborted fetus, because it is a legal procedure after all.
And with regards to the murder victim
The actress appeared on Good Morning America today and said she would be back for several episodes, possibly as Mrs. Hoober’s twin sister
Oh, “kiss the girl up against the wall” has definitely been done many, many times (probably even before NXNW!) . . . I didn’t mean to imply that I thought it was hot because I’d never seen it before, just that it was hot because it was James Denton doin’ it.
His reaction was chilling. But when/if they get him to counseling, maybe it will turn out to be a defense mechanism (kind of set up by the way the show was wrapped up with how everyone deals with guilt).
And in a way he is just following the lead set by Bree when she set up the plan for the car to be stolen. She can cluch her Bible all she wants, but she’s not much better than the kid.
i guess bree and fam is going for the “oh my… no, that can’t be andrew’s car. his car is right here in the garage…” “aiiiiiieeee, his car IS gone.” routine. pathetic.
how much do you want to bet mama is hearing everything in her coma and is gonna tell as soon as she finds her way back.
Possibly, but if so, it was undercut by Mary Alice’s voice over saying that “some people feel no guilt at all.” I think her son is a budding sociopath and the daughter’s not much better. Both are superficial and obsessed with the material.
I think Bree, by repressing all her feelings and only offering a shiny plastic veneer to everyone, including her husband, has inadvertantly created children who only know about veneer. She’s reaping what she’s sown all right.
What I’d like to know is how Mrs. Huber knew enough to send a blackmail note to Mary Alice. None of the other women (who were closer to Mary Alice than Mrs. Huber was) knew anything about a baby.
I’ve been assuming that whatever happened, happened before they moved to Wisteria Lane. But that doesn’t make sense either. Why move the trunk to the new neighborhood?
Did Mary Alice’s husband dig up the trunk before or after the housewives confronted him with the blackmail note? I can’t remember.
