Desperate Housewives 3/26

Tonight, Gabi and Carlos try to find a surrogate mom who will produce a baby attractive enough to suit them. More hijinks abound with the other ladies of Wisteria Lane, and I’ll be back later. In the meantime, please jump on in!

Justin is sooo gonna dump Andrew soon. Or he’ll end up as a witness for Bree if the case goes to court. But I hope they find a way to keep him around after that because, well, he’s hot. Isn’t Andrew supposed to be 17? Can’t he just wait around for a while until he finally turns 18? I do like hating him, though.

I missed last week’s show, but I thought I remembered reading in the TWoP recap that Andrew wanted emancipation because it would allow him early access to the trust fund Rex set up for him. Which doesn’t make a lot of sense; I would think that his legal adulthood would be a separate issue from the terms of the trust, but it’s TV law after all.

Good to see that Betty is taking her “full-time job” of watching Caleb seriously. This makes, what, the third time he’s wandered off out of the house? Good also of her to tip off Caleb to Danielle’s upcoming birthday, because it’s not like a pretty young girl that his brother is interested in is a trigger or anything.

Bree’s storyline is just stupid. Even if she did somehow get so drunk at the department store (that’s quite a department store lunch counter, having a liquor license) that she’d be able to drag clothes into a dressing room without anyone on staff noticing her staggering around, I somehow doubt that the staff would lock up for the night without checking the dressing rooms both for people and for merchandise to be re-shelved. But if it leads to the semi-hot AA guy taking his clothes off in future episodes, I can’t complain too much I suppose.

Carl is an idiot and a bastard.

I think Andrew can emancipate himself when he’s 18, but he doesn’t get his trust fund money until he’s 21 or 25. He wants his money. It didn’t look like Justin approved of this repressed memories BS, did it?

I’m losing patience with Susan. I’ve never seen anyone who doesn’t know her own mind like she does, er, doesn’t.

What’s the pregnant pole dancer up to? Is she going to try and keep her baby and the money too, or what?

I think the AA guy is going to get involved w/ Bree. Beecher from “Oz”.

Looks to me like they’re setting up the apparent dad to go after Gabi and Carlos to reclaim the baby. Whether Mother Poledancer is involved in a scam with him or whether it’ll happen independently is yet to be seen.

How’s Andrew affording the lawyer, anyway?

I think the lawyer’s working on a commisson from the trust. Isn’t the age to get access to a trust independant of majority? I thought 21-25 was normal.

Best line: “The Constitution does not protect ugly people.”

Are there a lot of moms in the U.S. who breastfeed until their kids are 5 or so? Just curious. I have absolutely no idea.

Just how did Caleb manage to slip out of the house undetected, anyway?

Susan needs a wheelchair at home? She could have just used a walker–but I suppose it doesn’t have as much comedic effect.

Next week looks like fun.

Carl is a bastard. But Susan is a doormat. The doctor is likewise a doormat. Doesn’t work. She needs Mike and he needs a spine. The previews for next week with Edie finding out about Susan and Carl look HILARIOUS. Smashing crockery is always a good thing.

I thought the best line was Pole Dancer: I’m a lot smarter than everyon thinks.

And also, is breastfeeding really an effective way to control one’s weight? I’ve never heard this before.

I thought this was a decent episode, and it looks like Justin might be starting to re-think his relationship with that rotten Andrew. One thing that did bug me thought was blowing the “ugly birth mother” joke. Gabrielle is my favorite character on this show, and her shallowness and materialism cracks me up every time.

That joke would have played much better, I think, if the birth mother had just been plain-looking, rather than repulsive and snaggle-toothed.

Breastfeeding can burn up to 500 calories a day. I guess that depends on how often you do it.

It’s now off of my TIVO list. Aside from floundering around stupid lately, the whole breast feeding storyline pissed me off, even if I agreed the mom as portrayed seemed to have issues.

I don’t see Carl as being a bastard in this case; in fact, I’m gaining respect for him. Not only has he endangered his own future with Edie to provide for Susan’s health, but he’s trying to be a matchmaker and get Susan away from the doctor (who is a jerk) and together with Mike, because he knows the two of them love each other and are just too proud and clueless to get back together. Carl’s just giving them a shove in the right direction.

And it seems obvious the poledancer doesn’t want the baby, but her boyfriend does, setting us up for a huge custody battle and the possibility of Carlos going back to jail for…something violent, I’m sure.

Now, I know that Gabby’s goal was to get a hot mother, but did it not bother her that the woman looked completely different from herself? I mean, here a hispanic couple was likely to be raising a blonde baby, and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, why wouldn’t they want to try for someone with a bit more resemblance?

Ya think? Really? I guess it’s just because I can’t stand the guy, but I thought he was doing it for his own entertainment. He was cracking up when he was in the kitchen. And yeah, he does really still care about Susan. I think he just has the opinion that if he can’t have her, no one can, especially since he’s now with fatal attraction woman. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Edie, but she’s psychotic, and for some reason she feels threatened by Susan.

Monica, that was my thought too. She complains that she wants a child from a beautiful mother, one that will look at least a little like her and Carlos, but she’s going to be raising a child that will look nothing like them at all. And I’m pretty sure that scheming pregnant chick has something up her sleeve besides a few gifts.
