Desperate old stranger needs frank opinions

Am i the only one?
No. My first thought, too. But something about it seems real… hmm…? If not, though, I guess it’ll get discovered soon enough by the local sleuths, more talented than me.

AWESOME!

Same here. Either it’s real or it’s not. Obviously, I have nothing better to do with my time, so I’ll answer in good faith.

Whoops, you’re right. Sorry Skip.

Ditto.

BB - I have nothing to add to your inquiry that hasn’t already been said, but may I adopt you as my on-line gramma? You sound like a real fun person, and my own grandparents have long since shuffled off (but not to Buffalo). I lost my parents also - it’s just me and the cat now. SCL and VBob can vouch for me, if need be.

Cue orchestra for “I Enjoy Being a Doper.” I challenge the rest of you to provide lyrics!
With profoundest apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein:

I’m doper, and by me that’s only great!
I’m so proud that my ignorance is fought
That I walk with a swagger and smarter-than-average gait
(It’s taking longer than we thought)

When I have a brand new insight
About the latest no-hoper
I float as the clouds on air do
I enjoy being a doper!

je m’excuse.
I wasn’t aware.

I can tell you that I have been given to know that almost 65% of our new members suffer almost NO permanent mental damage (up from the 40% of a couple of years ago…).

Which, I believe, coincided with the inclusion of the Lime Jell-O, but that could simply be the placebo effect in action.

Can we name the goat Sam?
Away out here they have a name for goats and squids and fire.
The goat is Sam, the fire’s Joe and they call the squid Mariah.

Mariah welcomes the newbies to town, and sets their hearts a-flyin’.
Mariah makes MPSIMS sound like folks was out there dyin’.

Mariah. (Mariah).
Mariah. (Mariah).
They call the squid Mariah.

Before I knew Mariah’s name and heard her wail and whinin’,
I had tentacle sex, and it had me, where the sun was never shinin’.

But then one day I joined the boards.
I paid the registration fee,
and now I’m lost, so gol’ darn lost
not even Cecil can find me.

Mariah. (Mariah).
Mariah. (Mariah).
They call the squid Mariah.

Out here they have a name for goats and squid and fire only.
When you post a high post count, there ain’t no name for lonely.
And I’m a lost and lonely Hal without a sheep to guide me.
Mariah blow my love to me. I need my love beside me.

Mariah. (Mariah.)
They call the squid Mariah.
Mariah!
Mariah. (Mariah.)
They call the squid Mariah.

Regards,
Shodan

you just reminded me of a little silliness my friend sang to me recenetly:

Away out here they have a name for wind and rain and fire.
The wind is Wind, the rain is Rain, and they call the fire Fire.

Dear WhyNot,

Thank you ever so much for the links you have provided in your post. It took me a while to go through them and find the relevant area. Nonetheless, it was a very sobering read.

Things have not changed much since I last posted my situation. I still feel that shameful desperation. It seems that I could get Sam into a whole lot trouble if I busy myself with what are, in reality, his personal affairs.

My thanks to all of you.

I’m bumping this thread because
a) I missed it the first time around and it’s a really good OP, and
b) It made me all warm and fuzzy inside
