Despicable: McCain & child sexual predators

The problem is that Rove’s tactics worked. Understandably, Democrats feel the need to get down in the mud with the pigs, because being all noble while Republicans take incompetence to new lows (highs?) isn’t fun for long.

The only way to break the cycle is to make the people who start the slime (quite obviously Rove and now Schmidt) lose. People will inevitably react badly to getting slurred constantly until then.

And Shayna etc, even in the worst cases, that Bricker is full of shit about considering Obama or that he was flat out trolling, it’s quite futile to respond in that way. And of course, you could be wrong, in which case it’s worse than futile. Regardless, so much bile is…distasteful in itself.

Dup.

Oh fuck off Dead Badger. I don’t really give a shit how “calm” Bricker is in this thread, he deserves relentless scorn for his contemptible position, I don’t care how he wants to spin it.

He’s actually willing to subject us to MORE OF THIS CRAP in our politics. From our LEADERS!

Until people like Briker are willing to take a principled stand against the POLITICIANS with the strength of their votes, we will have this forever and ever. It will never, ever get better so long as these tactics work. And even if he doesn’t like them, if he rewards them anyway, They. Won’t. Stop!

For him, that’s perfectly acceptable (even though he proclaims his distaste for it), so long as he gets to keep his guns and his money.

Fuck him and Fuck you.

To coin an old movie line, I’M MAD AS HELL AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

(Oh, and P.S. If you have a look at his previous thread (the only one I addressed him in), you’ll see that I was quite rational and polite to him. So I didn’t “have a go at him” in any other threads. And if he keeps this up, I’ve only just begun.)

Even assuming McCain loses, he’ll undoubtedly get millions of votes.

And if he wins, he’ll very likely have gotten a majority of the votes cast.

Does that make millions of voters in this country contemptible?

The board seems to have eaten my post saying how much I appreciate this, so, to sum up, I appreciate this. I do hope that the Republicans have finally sickened of Rovian tactics enough that we’ll be able to get back to a position of respectful disagreement.

I’m not terribly optimistic, but I appreciate what you’ve said here.

yes!

Look at the ads Bricker, look at the lies repeated over and over (opposed the bridge to nowhere? What bollocks). Anyone who votes for that party is contemptible.

Probably stupid too. The number of people who have a rational reason for voting Republican is far too low for them to win on issues, so this bullshit results.

ETA: To clarify, many many people vote republican because they actually think Roe v Wade is going to get overturned (complete idiots) or because they hate teh gay or whatever. Then there are the idiots who actually think the Republicans are fiscally conservative. What’s left is the rich, the hawks, and maybe single issue gun voters. Not nearly enough.

Oh, for the love of fuck! Can we have one damned thread that Bricker posts in not hijacked over that stupid goddamned argument? Bricker’s voting for McCain. Bully for him. Can we get on with our lives and start talking about the topic of the fucking thread again?

As for McCain’s ad, it’s idiotic. I’m really very tired of people out-and-out lying to me. Not misleading, not stretching the truth, just plain lying. This bill doesn’t say what McCain’s team claims it does, and either they’re stupid enough to think they’re right, or they’re lying to try to get access to the White House. In either case, they don’t deserve the vote of anyone who’s tired of politics as it’s been for the last 20 years.

Sheesh. Do you realise what you sound like? Perhaps you could get someone to read your posts back to you, I don’t know; maybe a nice sit down and a cup of tea would help. I simply don’t understand how someone who is apparently otherwise sane could be this rabid, still less expect something positive to result from it. It can’t even be making you feel better, can it?

ETA: I mean, you do realise that if we were all having this conversation in person, and Obama were there, he would be trying his hardest to distance himself from you and your behaviour, right? You can’t possibly believe this is the sort of image he wants his supporters to convey, can you?

It’s one vote, Shayna, let it go.

If it makes you feel any better, McCain’s Convention bounce is starting to fade. Obama is back up in two polls today.

Oh for Fuck’s sake – we’re in the BBQ Pit, which was designed for this very kind of ranting. What the hell makes you think I’d be “having this conversation” in real life with Barack Obama present? Why do I have to pretend he’s looking over my shoulder in the goddamn BBQ Pit??? That’s just absurd.

Pity so many American’s don’t understand the “baffle them with bullshit” routine. Hopefully you overcome that, I recommend better education pronto if you succeed

Getting some media that realise a press release isn’t news would help too.

Not to mention, almost the whole damn thing was from “bouncing” that occurred in the South, where we never expected to win anyway! See here (thanks goes out to EddyFreddyTeddy for the link).

I wonder how many people support the position that a vote for the Republican presidential candidate in this election is enough, alone, to make such a voter a contemptible person.

Depends. If I can say “Bless his heart, he don’t know any better”, that’s one thing. But you do. And that’s another thing altogether.

Well your country is severely fucked up, and you’re voting for someone who has no discernible positions (except not taxing people, and making sure you waste more money on the debt). He’s also a member of the party that just fucked the country up. To top it off, the candidate has shown he thinks no attack is too low, as long as he wins. What else is required for contempt?

Another interesting article from HuffPo shows that Republicans are probably getting oversampled in these post-convention polls.

You are all missing the point, it’s all about a back door (no pun intended) tax. Don’t teach kids about how to prevent sexual assault, and then when they get raped charge them for the exam. It’s just another profit center for big govt.

(Gee, talking like a right-wing asshole is much easier than thinking.)

Bricker, I can understand your decision as it is. What concerns me and others, not just you, but many voters, is that the focus on particular issues in some ways ignores evything that comes along with it. I am not going to chastise you, but I am going to try and explain my thinking.

McCain on the surface also shares some values I have on taxation and the size of government. But as far as I am concerned there are bigger things at stake here.

The level of discourse in this country is horrible, driven by soundbites and 24 hour media. The Rovian world must be ended, IMO, the politics of fear, hate, racism, and McCain has embraced it fully. If he wins, we lose on this front and this affects our politics forever.

The rise of the religious right-wing is extremely troubling to me. While an exagerration, I feel that the more they get their claws into the ruling party the more we become a theocracy. I cannot abide this.

President Bush is responsible for a general decline in the values and principles this country stands for, IMO. Torture, politicization of the justice department, fighting habeus corpus, manufacturing a war and then conducting it disgracefully. These are the sins of possibly thhe worst President ever? And he has done it with full complicity of his party. How can we combat this abuse of power, this wanton destruction of America, if we hand the reins of power back to the party that is responsible? How can we allow that?

That is what drives my decision. Are the things you listed the be all end all to your decision?

It’s either ignorance, in which case it’s contemptible, or it’s insanity, in which case it’s pitiable.

Take your pick - contempt or pity.
