Come now. They do emphasize the fact that the company is in dire financial straits. Presumably it’s SOP now to maintain your ammo supply by finding a guy with your same kind of gun and strangling him.
Hard, but not impossible. There are many ways to bypass them in most cases. Though I think there were one or two times where I had to get “closeish” to a vent, then run like hell while they all tried to brutally murder me.
Endgame frenemies:
You can just use nonlethal takedowns indefinitely. All you need is a place they can’t get to - such as any convenient vent or barricade. Just hop over and nail one. They’re actually none too bright and frequently just stop and stare at you while you walk past. Which is actually good work matching the situation to the AI behavior.
I found the PEP gun invaluable for the endgame frenemies. It’d easily take down most or all of them, and then I could just punch the one or two stragglers who didn’t get dropped or switch to the stun gun.
I also found gas grenades very effective here, especially since they’re stupid and will chase you straight into the gas cloud and fall asleep (gas immunity aug is wonderful for this).
I like it. I saw a similarity between Adam and Snake early on…
I myself keep thinking “Key-riminy, I’m roleplaying Keanu Reeves here.”
Also, the gun dealer in the old gas station appears to be Danny Vermin from Johnny Dangerously.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was intentional. The game seems to be rife with references, though only a couple I noticed come to mind at the moment: the guy explaining the plot to RoboCop to Officer Murphy, and the fact that the guy with the gun for an arm had the same name as the guy from Final Fantasy VII who had a gun for an arm, Barrett.
Regarding end game enemies.
The endgame zombies don’t actually seem to attack you unless you fight or run. What they do is run right at you and then stop dead to elicit one of the above reactions. I’m can’t be certain that it works for all of them, but after I ran out of stun gun darts I had a 100% success rate in simply walking slowly past several dozen more of them.
That’s interesting. I was always in crouched run mode. I’ll have to load up a save and see if that changes things.
Well, I managed to…
…save Malik. The tricky bit was not actually killing somebody standing next to the behemoth robot when I dropped an EMP grenade on it. I tried to draw the damn thing away by putting my own ass in front of it and also draw out and tranq anybody who might get closer to it. In the end, I was paranoid enough that I’d blow the Pacifist achievement that I ran around and dragged all the sleeping bodies into a line so I could assure myself I wasn’t missing any. There were ten of them altogether, near as I can tell. I also counted ten weapons lying around, so I don’t think I missed anybody.
Still, though, it’s one thing for the game to leave you unsure whether you’ve not been spotted for the duration of a mission (and then only inform you in a brief XP message you can easily miss while following the story), but leaving you in the dark about whether you’re still eligible for an achievement throughout the duration of a whole game is just assholish.
I was definitely disappointed with the ending:
First, the end game boss… uhm what? Talk about Deus Ex Machina. I was totally lost. Why was this super computer the final boss? What does it have to do with anything?
Also, the actual ending is literally based on which button you decide to press. I would have expected my actions through out the game to have more influence on how things turned out.
Still overall, this was probably one of the best games I’ve played in recent years. The whole Malik thing tore me up like nothing else since some of the stuff that happens in Baldur’s gate 2.
Here’s hoping they release a sequel.
I heard some DLC for it is coming in October.
So apparently lasers turn off when someone who is allowed to pass through them comes near, even if they are not exactly alive at the time. I love small details like that.
I hadn’t noticed it, but now that I know I also love it.
I’ve been playing this game mostly by the following strategy:
- Try to sneak around and be stealthy
- Creep up behind first guard
- Shoot guard in head with silenced pistol
- Alert other guards
- Shoot other guards in the head with silenced pistol
- Alarm sounds, other guards run
- Take cover, reload
- Shoot remaining guards in the head with silenced pistol. Alarm ends.
8a. Once there was a robot. I tried to sneak around it, but then there I found a rocket launcher. So I blew up the robot with it. - Collect ammo, run to next room. Initiate step 1.
Am I missing something?
Well yeah, there is really not much point in attempting to be stealthy or in using a silenced pistol if you are just going to trigger alarms and kill everyone anyways.
Tubes,
I often use the same tactic. You can use the silenced assault rifle as well although I find headshots more difficult with it.
Digital,
There is the point that it makes battles easier since taking on many enemies at the same time is difficult. Trying to take on many enemies head on, especially if one of the is an ogre or a robot, will often result in the game showing you it was a foolish move.
Also, it saves on ammo.
I also like the “hide in the shadows and take them out one by one” gameplay.
Anyone else tried for a pacifist run? Other than the very first mission, I was able to manage it (and get called Ghandi by Prichard) right up until the second visit to China. I wasn’t going to let Malik die, damn it! Apparently it is possible, but with only the stealthy set up I either died each time or the chopper blew up. I had no EMP grenades or any way to take down the robot, either. So I reloaded an earlier save and decided screw it - let’s get dangerous. Most satisfying to blow enemies away with that heavy machine gun thing and headshot with the revolver left right and centre. Not to mention, the double-kill you get with the reflex aug - very cool.
I also like how the game turns simple dialogue sections into epic boss fights, like when you take Taggart down a peg or two and talk whats-his-face out of suicide.
It’s possible but difficult. Have an EMP ready for the robot, sprint everywhere, liberal use of stun gun, tranq rifle, and takedowns + food. It took me about 5 tries to save Malik during my pacifist run. Also, as Jragon mentioned upthread, it doesn’t matter if the robot kills a guard as long as you knocked him out first.
Here’s a decent video of someone doing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGT4fve9Wa4
He saves the robot for last, but I’d recommend you get it ASAP if you have any EMP grenades or mines on you. Also, I didn’t know stun guns affected robots until watching that heh.
