Deus Ex: Human Revolution

You lose the laser sight on your gun after the intro level, which makes aiming a lot harder. If you hit middle mouse, though, you can aim with iron sights.

Not sure what the equivalent is on a game controller.

They explain that during your first visit to the medical clinic, but it does feel less satisfying than having two separate tracks of advancement.

Use your middle mouse button to sight. It works for me in cover, too, though I haven’t tried it with the pistol (I’m using the tranq rifle). I do enjoy sneaking in close (or luring them around the corner with noise) for a physical take-down too.

ETA: You get laser sights again later on as an upgrade item that you can apply to your weapon of choice. I remember aiming in the first game to be miserable in the early levels too. You had to advance your weapon skills quite a bit before aiming became reliable.

I’m on a pc. I find it impossible to hit anything without the iron sights and they can’t be used from cover?

I have to admit, I really like this game, aside from the interesting conversation animations and rather subpar graphics (for a DX11 game with tessellation, at that). So far I’ve gone stealth and no-kill from the getgo (including the tutorial, that last encounter is a bitch). Got ghost after the first “real” level and I saved and got off right when I got leave to explore the city.

I don’t know what others did, but personally I talked down the guy heading the operation. My mantra is usually that, if I have a choice, to save the people in immediate danger and figure the perp can be caught at a later date. This could easily blow up in my face, but unless this guy is an amazing bluffer it seems like he’d be a more useful unwitting pawn for my side than a potential threat. And despite the fact my boss and a couple of faceless SWAT guys are mad at me, I got good PR from everyone else.

I also can’t get aiming from cover to work (and I’m using tranq rifle). I think it may be either a driver or a hardware issue, I know there exist keyboards that aren’t good for games 'cause they can’t accept having 2-3 inputs at once, I imagine similar problems may exist for mice. I don’t have time to try right now, but perhaps it would work if you rebound the key or set cover to “toggle” instead of hold.

Jragon, I did the same thing with the first boss. I was a bit mystified, as the reviews I’d read up to now complained that you never have a choice in the boss fights. Clearly, they just suck at virtual social interaction  In fact, there’s an achievement for it – what are these reviewers smoking?

You guys are not firing blind from cover right? that’s just suppressing fire, you gotta lean out to fire.

In addition to that, you also get bonus XP for completing main objectives in a timely fashion (IIRC it scrolls across the screen as “Getting Things Done”). I’ve gotten anywhere from an extra 250 to 1000. It appears as if they don’t want players to feel punished for not exploring and going off to do side quests, which is a pretty interesting approach that I haven’t seen elsewhere.

I have a weird bug.

When I loot bodies and click “ACCEPT” the game decides to fire my gun. I have put a lot of tranquilizer darts into already fallen foes this way.

Am I doing something wrong? (on PC version)

When can you get a revolver? I know of two already, but for various and sundtry reason passed them up.

I know you can get one as the Lethal / Close range option in the beginning of your first mission, and later on from Zeke’s cold corpse. However, I didn’t want those compared to the alternative options. I haven’t been able to find one for sale, even though I’ve been saving some upgrades for it.

Neat! This bar code can be scanned: http://i.imgur.com/e9VqF.jpg

I haven’t found one yet. I should have picked it at the start, i don’t like the non lethal weapons and combat rifles are everywhere.

Not exactly an easter-egg, but if you look at David Sharif’s wall, you can see that rather then making him a graduate of MIT, Caltech, etc, he has a degree from the online college University of Phoenix.

Lol!

Not surprised if online institutions really are the future of education.

Really the whole universe of this game feel so real because it’s all so plausible.

If you are thinking of getting this (you should be) then do NOT buy from Gamestop

I don’t have my new PC ready yet so I picked up the PS3 version. I hate this sort of game on a console but I really like it so far. I did get the social interaction upgrade but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t a bitch to use the first time. I think that paying a little more attention the next time I use it will go a long way to making it useful.

I turned off the highlight objects but turned it back on when I wasn’t finding any lockpicks, multitools or medkits. I now realize that there doesn’t seem to be those items in the game so I turned the highlights back off.

As far as mods go, can you upgrade both of the eye mods, or are you stuck with one or the other like previous versions?

So what’s up with the batteries? I see two battery icons in the top left corner of my screen, but only one is ever green. I bought the upgrade so I now have 3 battery icons, but still, only the first one is charged. What do I need to do to charge them all?

The first will refresh after I use it, but never the other two.

Only the first one refreshes on its own, you gotta eat power bars to refresh the others. Actually any of them will refresh as long as they are not fully depleted.

Right.

Well I didn’t get the chance to pick up the game today, and am just now finally taking a break from playing it for 6 hours straight. I have to same, I’m in love with this game, just like I thought I’d be.
So far I’ve been killing everyone in sight during missions, including those cocky SWAT bastards. I was kind of surprised I didn’t get reprimanded for that though.
I just spent a long time hacking and crawling my way through the police station - damn that’s a big building!

I’m thinking about starting a second character just to see how well I can do “ghost” mode.

You can still kill everyone in your path and do ghost mode, you just gotta make sure no one sees you. Silenced weapons help a lot.
