Dexter 12/16/12 Surprise Motherfucker

Quick question – I haven’t watched Season 1 since it aired, but I have this vague recollection that in the first episode of Season 1, there was some implication that Dexter and LaGuerta were sleeping with each other – or had been, in the recent past. It was never referenced again, so it’s quite possible I made it up. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Thanks!

As I recall, LaGuerta made a pass at Dexter and he shot her down.

My dream final season for Dexter (inspired by a disgusting show that my wife and teenage daughter like to watch):

In episode one the mother of a girl at Harrison’s preschool asks Dexter if Harrison can escort her daughter in a pageant. Dexter agrees, but at the pageant he is so horrified at the treatment of the young participants that he begins systematically going after the organizers of toddler beauty pageants. By the last episode, he succeeds in shutting down the entire toddler pageant system. Suddenly, the Dark Passenger is gone. Dexter realizes his work is done – he’ll never need to kill again and he can now have a real normal life.

I so wanted to see scenes of Matsuka in a diaper! Maybe they will introduce pictures next year.

Were the flashback scenes with Doakes new or were some of them actually from the old episodes?

I’m pretty sure they were all old footage, otherwise Michael C Hall did a good job acting like he did a number of years ago when the show was still in it’s first and second season and he wasn’t quite as ‘dark’ as he is now.

Re: Masuka in a diaper. A)It seemed too Night Courtish and B)They’d have to redo his tattoo.

Yeah, I had thought about the same thing. The answer is not just “no” but “HELL NO” - xanax is some nasty tasting shit that would be extremely detectable in water at the concentrations needed to make someone lose consciousness.

ETA: But again, you can’t take the little things too seriously in this show.

Well, wow. It went flying off the rails this season, but after slogging through the first few episodes it actually got fun in its ridiculousness. Hubby and I agreed it was like a bad episode of CSI–lame, yet still entertaining. We kept asking questions, then had to stop and realize our suspension of disbelief needed to be parked on the other side of town during this episode because, really. Because reality had been thrown in the air and blasted with buckshot, we couldn’t anticipate what would happen…a different sort of tension.

Incidentally, those scenes with Doakes were new. One, they had the lame “Look, Dexter’s hair is longer and combed! He’s YOUNGER now!” look, and two, none of the scenes were familiar. And, well, three, the internets said so: Bloomer: But those were original scenes, right? Not re-cut ones from old episodes?
Waldman: Right. I don’t remember Doakes confronting Dexter about his “glide” in season two.

And,
In the season finale, Doakes makes an appearance, in flashbacks of previously unseen confrontations between him and Dexter set before the events of season 1, and detailing how he became suspicious of Dexter, as well as his romantic involvement with LaGuerta – a major motive behind her determination to clear his name.

So what was the symbolism behind Hannah biting Dexter’s lip enough to draw blood when he visited her in prison? My first thought was that she just gave him HIV and therefore his own death sentence.

We just finished watcing season 7 last night.

I think it was Wisconsin but couldn’t swear to it.

We took it to mean that after her humiliation, she wasn’t going to call for back-up a second time, just in case.

I picked up the original book by Jeff Lindsay at our library recently and read that. In it, LaGuerta is much more of an airhead and achieved her position purely by sleeping around. And she was very much a horndog after Dexter. The series suggested this at the very start of season 1, then sort of dropped it. In fact, LaGuerta is killed at the end of the first book, so when I heard a major figure was going to be killed off, I was sort of betting it was her. And in the book, she gets killed in somewhat similar circumstances. Not exact, but pretty close.

I though she was just being a bitch. “Sometimes a hat is just a hat.”

I’d heard season 8 would be the last, but recently I’ve read the producers are rethinking that possibility and suggesting there could be a season 9.
