Dexter: He Gets Religion - New Season Starts Sunday!

They have to be because A)they’re actors, if they can’t put their emotions on the side while they’re working, they’re not doing their job and B)if they couldn’t work together Deb probably wouldn’t have found herself killed or otherwise written off the show.
Also, they weren’t married or even together for very long were they. Couple a years from beginning to end, right.

I dropped Showtime after Dexter ended last season. FYI, they are showing the full opener on YouTube if you want to check it out. I’m still waiting to see if it’ll be worth renewing the premium subscription.

What was the significance of putting the snakes in the victim’s abdomen? Is that a Biblical reference?

It is not a Biblical reference that I know of. Just something very significant to their cult.

I thought it was a good opening episode, and it will be interesting to see what happens.

Dexter has gone through lots of changes, so it is only fitting he reflects on religion this season. Having his son go to a Catholic school, with all of the religious icons on display - and then having the new serial killers performing religious sacrifices will make for some interesting comparisons. However, as a few have mentioned, this could easily turn into a whole bunch of cliches.
I guess we just have to trust the writers who, up until now at least, have done a good job with turning material into compelling storylines that do not fit into any cliche mode. Dexter claimed he doesn’t really believe in any organized religion, so my guess is he won’t exactly be joining any churches at the end of this season either.

I have an inexplicable dislike for Colin Hanks, so am not sure I am thrilled he is in the show this season. He just seems to be Tom Hanks Lite and he is trying to act like dad acting in the role. Hopefully I will change my mind, but so far I am waiting for him to eventually pull out a Snickers, munch it over a dead body, and say, “Life is like a bar of chocolate - you never never know what nuts are wrapped inside.”

It may refer to the 7 Headed Beast that’s supposed to kill the Whore of Babylon. If that’s the case, maybe the idea is that the two are releasing the beast upon the world.

Or just a crazy part of the cult.

I wonder if the new villains are a father/son team, and that might reflect on Dexter and Harry’s relationship.

The latest episode would imply

that they’re not. Given that Travis said to his… mentor, “I was at my sister’s.”

It’s interesting that Dexter’s spending almost no airtime at all doing his killing now. 30 seconds of chat with his victim and then STAB! The whole finding them, researching and stalking them is now a kind of background thing in the first two episodes at least.

God, let LaGuerta kill somebody so Dexter can chop her up!

My fantasy Dexter episode – LaGuerta tries to kill Deb, not with her own hand but by setting her up to go into some extremely dangerous situation without warning, and maybe even with an empty gun. This all happens in the first 5 minutes so Dex has the whole rest of the hour to torture, taunt and kill her.

This could also be the episode when Deb learns the truth about Dex, and she decides to help!

I hate LaGuerta. I hope she gets whacked this season.

Ok so question o’ the day – is Brother Jim for real or is he faking the whole finding God thing?

I’m wondering if Dexter and Brother Jim are going to be pals like he was with Jimmy Smits? And was I the only one waiting for Brother Jim to break out into “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men …” ??

But given the weird religion vibe those two have going, I almost wouldn’t find it out of place for him to tell his dad that in those words.

My wonder is if the old dude is really there or if the young one is just seeing him the way Harry is seen by Dex. We haven’t seen the old dude interact with anyone else yet, after all.

I saw several press stories talking about Dexter exploring religion as a recurring theme for this season. If they have an ongoing relationship, I suspect it might revolve around this – some kind of spiritual quest.

FYI, I see most of the Dexter news stories because I have a Google Alert set for Desmond Harrington --he’s on my Death Pool list 'cause it seems like he’s had some drastic weight loss in the last year or so.

Is Dexter at all capable of any kind of true spirituality?

Season 1 Dexter wasn’t, but he’s experienced all this “growth” since. So, maybe.

I thought that child abuse didn’t start getting prosecuted until the 70s. Did A Child Called It mislead me?

I have mixed emotions – I added him to my Death Pool list because he looked like he had some wasting disease.

Just saw the most recent episode. Holy. Fucking. Shit on a stick! That last scene was intense. I dunno if this’ll be the best season to date, but it’s already a strong contender for most fucked up! I’m really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

That was very freaky, but awesome as hell.

I don’t recognize the significance of seven snakes. The Alpha and Omega stitched into the victim’s chest is a widely known and common symbol of Christianity (the Alpha and the Omega, I mean, not the stitched part) and it’s really absurd that in a heavily Catholic community, no one in Miami Metro Homicide has caught on to that. It’s not subtle in the least. I suppose it’s not a Catholic symbol specifically, but I seriously question any police department that can’t figure that out pretty quickly.
