Again, re Nith runs: What are the odds of getting a key? Because they don’t seem to be good.
A barb’s find potion etc. skills would in principle work, but getting that close to corpses could be dangerous. And last I heard, I think the odds for keys were something like 1 in 12 runs or so, but they might have changed that in the patch.
And shall we say 8 PM Eastern Wednesday for mule-rushing on the smiter’s coat-tails?
I have 3 D keys and 1 T key. I know I saw some keys on a mule or 2, but I don’t remember which or what they were. Let’s get some keys from the Summoner (?). I guess my hammerdin would be fine for that.
BTW, (and I know I shouldn’t do any trading without consulting the experts first, but I did it anyway), I traded that Anni for a HotO and an SOJ. They are both on my hammerdin, so he is pretty bad-ass right now, but my Trapsin (who had the anni) now has to carry a stash full of Str, Dex and resist charms, and swap amulets to turn on Shadow Master and Fade to get resists mostly maxed. I’d love to get her a torch so getting keys would be easier, but to do that we need to do Uber runs, and to do that we need keys. It’s a Catch 22.
I’ll be there. Is the smiter the best for rushing? I’ll submit that, at least for normal and most of NM, my wind druid would be fastest, (at least if the rushee’s are following for exp. Otherwise, anyone with TP would be faster. I guess if the smiter just TP’s to the bosses and kills them, then he would be fastest.)
Is that GC that may have been dropped by Nith (or one of his close minions. It’s hard to tell with a Trapsin) worth rerolling? Or only from Hell Baal and D?
ETA: Also got a white “Superior Aerin Shield”, 47% CTB, Def 39, All resist +40. Thats the highest resists that I’ve seen except for the 44% on the Crown Sheild that my hammerdin has.
“Superior” items can’t be socketed through the cube formula but only from Larzuk, which means that this shield can only become a “Spirit”, so it’d be great for a hammerdin but not much else. That’s a reasonably good find.
My sorceress is probably fastest for rushing in normal and nightmare with teleport, and we could switch to a smiter or hammerdin for hell.
C and I did some runs together (C doing Countess while I did Nith). Some questions from that:
The reason that I asked if there was a reason why we did them together was because it was more difficult with you in there. OTOH, the 2 keys that we found (1 from Nith and 1 from the Countess when I got my Q) were in games that we were in together. Statistically, that’s not enough of a sample size to determine if the cost is worth the benefit, but the question remains: Do the chances of getting a key increase if more people are in the game?
What should I trade a D key for? A nearly 2 year old thread says that a D key is worth 2 T or H keys. Should I look to trade a D key for 2 H keys? Or more?
I thought that it was a flat 8% chance regardless of people in the game, but I could be entirely wrong.

The best character for rushing mules is one who’s level 40 and still in Normal. Obviously there also needs to be someone else to help make kills and preferably to teleport (though the smiter can probably solo bosses through NM at least).

I just got home from work. I had left a char in a hell game all night in case I got lucky with Uber Diablo again, and when I woke up there were a couple messages about SOJ’s being sold, so I left him in there all day. But no Diablo. Anyway, I’m ready.

OK, the smiter is now in Hell, the rares mule on sd-mules1 is to the Forge, and the armor mule on sd-holes is partway through A2 Hell, for those keeping score at home.

But, on another note, does anyone know how I can get my Diablo LOD cdkey I used to install the game on this computer? I have a Real life friend who is going to be bed ridden for a few days, and wants to play Diablo single player. He has his install disks, and his classic CD key, but can’t find his LOD key. If I was in Savannah, I could just read it off my jewel case, but I don’t have it with me when I’m home for these two weeks.
If someone knows a trojan free way to look it up, I would appreciate it.
I was running the Smiter through some Chaos games when I noticed the bot was in the Halls of Vaught. I jumped into his TP and he hadn’t picked up the key yet. I died, but I got the key before I did. The smiter is up to lvl 70 now.
Whoa, someone set a bot to running Nihlathak and didn’t set it to auto-grab keys? Someone must just really, really want max poison charms, or something.
It happened again. This is why I leave a char in a Hell game overnight or when I leave for a while. Jump in SDMB2 to help me kill Uber D.

I just came back to find about 6 “xxxx SOJ’s sold to merchants” messages. However, I was in a norm game. I’ve read just a bit about finding Uber games, and it appears that the relevant server is 54.
So I’m creating games, a couple at a time, until this…
