I took your advice. I mowed through the first few waves (the 2nd wave it sent me it said it was the 5th? I assumed it bumped me because of how much time was left?). Then I sandbagged it and got a “5” Greater Rift fragment. I wonder if someone could join me, and if so, would they have to have an equal one?
That level 5 rift was incredibly easy. (I normally play at T3 or 4). Well, the monsters were easy to kill, when you found them. It was so sparsely populated that I spent more time running than killing. If all of the greater rifts are like that I’ll need to invest in movement speed. I got 2 legs and 2 gems, and it took ~10 minutes. So this seems pretty lucrative to me, although I guess upgrading them will mean a lot of regular rifts. I chose the next rift instead of upgrading the gems, and it bumped me to 7. (Skipped a grade! Whoo hoo!)
OK, what do I need to do to get it to install the patch? Blizzard Launcher isn’t installing anything, and I have a Play button, but when the game starts up, it just immediately tells me that a patch is available and that it’ll automatically install it, and quits.
Greater Rifts are improperly named, IMHO. I thought that they would be harder than regular rifts, but they are not, at least at the single digit levels.
The level 7 rift was just as easy. Perhaps because I figured out that those purple orbs aren’t some residual lightning damage dealing stuff from elites, but that they boost your rift progress, so you want to grab those. I decided to upgrade one of my gems (you get 3 times, BTW. And I was successful all 3 times, despite it telling me I had a 60% chance*), because it seemed pointless to work up to a high level rift just to upgrade a level 0 gem. BTW, I only got 1 more gem and 0 legs from the level 7 guardian.
- I thought I had read that you have a 100% chance if the rift level is higher than the gem level, but I guess I misread that, (just like how I thought that greater rifts were only for seasonal characters. I guess my reading comprehension skills were worse than I thought.)
IDK. It worked fine for me, although it took a while because it’s apparently a pretty big patch. Reboot your PC and try again?
They start to get properly hard once you are past level 15 or so. Past 25-30 somewhere they get harder than T6 from what I’ve heard - 19 is the highest I’ve gone so far and that felt slightly harder than T3.
Started up a new character on PS4. Man it’s boring grinding the early levels after you’ve played PC for so many hours.
I notice I can change difficulty. Is this the same as the PC versions normal nightmare hell and inferno or is this something different!
I guess you haven’t played in a while? A long time ago they got rid of “normal nightmare hell and inferno” and replaced them with different difficulty levels. The monsters scale up with you level. You can change the difficulty level based on (honestly) how good your gear is. The good news is that you don’t have to play through the game 4 fricking times.
How’s the targeting and such with a gamepad vs a mouse? I would love to play it with a controller… too bad they don’t allow that on PC.
Targetting is great. I played it on 360 too a while back and it was just as good. I couldn’t imagine going back to PC and using the mouse and keyboard at this point.
I wish they would let you increase the font sizes on the PS4 though. I’m playing on a 40" HDTV and can barely read anything on the screen from 6ft away or so.
This matches my experience: I haven’t played for quite a while, but I did a T3 rift to get a Greater Shard and then level 15 and 17 Greater rifts. The 15 was a bit easier than T3, the 17 was similar or slightly harder (it felt like I was taking a decent bit more incoming damage, and I couldn’t just tank everything with my delicious new DexArmor).
I feel like T6 regular rifts are child’s play now when I am farming trial stones. If I try to do well in the trial I end up at grift 32-35, and those are significantly harder than T6.
It took me a long time to farm the mats for the Hellfire amulets, but I had done it awhile back before the patch. Farming keys work best in groups who can handle high torment levels and you all split up and ignore the monsters until you find the warden and wait until everyone runs to or ports to you before you kill them. You can find them pretty fast with Danetta’s or other speed bounty set ups. It is still not all that fun and especially depressing when it rolls crap.
I am playing on XBox One. I have a pretty awesome Witch Doctor.
Finally got one of my legendary gems to 25 - it’s quite a lot of work but not an insane grind, and I find doing higher levels Greater Rifts fun with the timer ticking down and enemies doing ludicrous amounts of damage so you’ll have to constantly balance between being in a hurry and trying to stay alive. Kinda lonely though, with most of the clan doing seasonal characters. sniffle
I’m still doing non-seasonal (when I’m on, at least). I’m trying to find someone to take my reduced-level gear off my hands before I delete that mule. I don’t want to just throw them away, since someone without the expansion would love to have them… but with Blizzard deciding that trading items is evil, it’s a lot harder to find someone interested.
I was doing some bounties on Expert (just trying to get the rift fragments quickly) when I found and killed a treasure goblin that left open a portal to The Vault. When it was all said and done, I got 5 legs (1 of them a gem), ~6 mil gold, 18 imperials gems, and IDK how many marquise gems. I recommend it if you get the chance.
Question about those legendary gems: Can you upgrade them while they’re socketed? I don’t have any jewelry with a socket yet to test such things out, and enchanting a leg ring or ammy is crazy expensive.
Yes, you can upgrade legendary gems while they’re in a socket, or even when they’re in your stash. When you finish a greater rift, the nice ghost-lady will give you the option to upgrade, and if you take it, you’ll see a display of all of the legendary gems you own to choose from. Personally, I got all of the legendary gems by taking a dive on the trial for a greater rift, so I won’t get any of them from a Greed portal (though there are still plenty of other rewards).
I also have a seasonal character now, a DH, and found that quiver that turns your Chakram into a resource-earner. I had heard people talking about it before, but assumed that it was a bow. It being a quiver is even better, because it means you can mix and match it with a nice high-damage weapon.
There’s one legendary gem that only drops from Greed - the one that makes mobs drop more gold. I’ve been playing quite a bit since the patch but had no luck finding a portal to Greed’s world yet. Could really use both the gold and the gem.
Yeah, that’s the one I got. I also got an ammy that did less healing “on paper” than what I was using, but heals you when you pick up gold. I’m thinking that I should pair them up (especially since I have something that gives exp when you pick up gold.)
Guess I gotta figure out the new socket quest.
[Missed edit window] http://www.diablowiki.net/Ramaladni’s_Gift The “new socket quest” is actually apparently an item that just drops but only works on weapons.
