How is D3 doing? I was a big fan of D2, but I’m totally out of the loop on D3. How does everything work now that the Auction House is gone?
It’s also very rare and completely random, so you can’t really plan for one to drop.
D3 is pretty good right now and while I joined after AH, I haven’t really heard anybody crying after it. You need both the base game and expansion for all the new stuff though so it is kinda expensive unless you happen to find them on sale somewhere.
If you do get it, let Chronos know quickly before he gets rid of all of that reduced level requirement stuff. (Unless you go with a seasonal character (which I would, at this point) in which case that stuff is useless to you, too.)
Sorry, too late. I took one of my L60 characters, joined a random pub game, and advertised, and very quickly found someone to use it. Didn’t get anything in trade, but didn’t expect to, since there’s not really anything a L60 can find that’s worth anything to a L70 (a few legendaries are useful even at lower level, but they’re not tradable). I just didn’t want it to go to waste.
That’s OK. The more I thought about it the more I realized that nobody that bought the game today would have any reason to play a non-season character. I have 2 years invested and I’m playing a seasonal character.
No rush. I’m going to have some free time this winter and was just wondering. Is “season character” like “ladder character” on D2?
Yes.
And for your fun fact of the evening, I found a belt that has increases your damage by 100% - 135% for 10 seconds after you open a chest. You know how there are dead bodies lying around and stones you can overturn to find stuff? Well, they count, as well as armor racks. So if you come across some elites you just have to find a rack or loose rock to more than double you damage for long enough to kill them (IDK about stuff like pots that you can destroy to find gold. I’ve only used it in one area.) So this mod is more beneficial than you might think.
It’s kinda like those boots that allow you to walk through monsters unhindered. It turns out that they also allow you to walk through wallers’ walls.
It’s anything with a blue outline that can drop stuff (so, all of them except doors, basically), and it’s widely recognized as the best belt in the game for nearly every build.
I am at least 8% convinced that the reason there is no loot in Greater Rifts is because they wanted to nerf the Harrington Waistguard without actually nerfing the Harrington Waistguard. It’s still frickin’ awesome for running bounties, though.
[TL;DR version: Grifts get exponentially harder and Vyr’s set isn’t for me.]
3 of us did some Greater Rifts last night. We finished level 22 with about 5 minutes left. So then we did level 23 and couldn’t finish it in time. I’m certain the difficulty ramps up exponentially.
This happened just after I finally found a RRG, which meant that I get the 4-set benefits of Vyr’s set (Archon gains the effects of all runes) despite only having 3 parts. I enchanted a socket into my RRG and selected Taeguk for my next legendary ring. It increases your damage when you use your primary resource. As it turns out, using Archon doesn’t spend any resources, so Archon (and therefore Vyr’s) is not very compatible with Taeguk. Back in the day I quit using Archon because I didn’t think that the benefits outweighed the costs, but I hadn’t had the chance to check out the benefits of Vyr’s 4-set bonus. As it turns out, I still don’t think it’s worth it. I think I’m going to go back to using my RRG to get the maximum benefit for 3 or 4 different sets. I lessened my damage putting on Vyr’s set and the benefits didn’t match up for something that only increases your damage a little bit for 30 seconds every 100 seconds.
One point I feel the need to mention about the difference between regular rifts and Greater rifts: With regular rifts I liked to get to the rift guardian at the end of an area, so that I didn’t have to fight him along with a bunch of other guys. However, with a Grift, once the guardian shows up, the other guys disappear. Also, if you die in a Grift the only option is to resurrect at the last checkpoint, and you don’t want that to be at the far end of where the guardian is. So, in a Grift, your’e better of going to the next level before you fight the guardian.
IDK if anybody will read this, but I’m playing in the Public Test Realm (PTR) just because I got tired of doing other stuff. Since you can copy your characters I did that and did an Uber run with my Harvester WD. The worst of the 4 Ubers is Diablo, because it starts with just him, but then he brings in Ghom, and then the Witch. (Maybe because my HWD is kinda slow on bosses). After getting all 4 parts (I did this on T6 and got a part on every run, so it took me (4x4) 16 keys total. (Keys don’t drop 100% of the time on T6).
Anyway, you have the option of making a Hellfire Ring or Amulet. With the amulet you get whatever mainstat you chose, “Random Class Passive” and 4 random properties. “Random Class Passive” essentially means that you now have 5 passive skills instead of 4. So, if there are 5 passives that you really want but hate that you had to settle for only 4, get one of these and you have a 5 in 18 chance of rolling one of the 5 you want. (or 1 in 3 of getting one of the 6 you’d like). Then you just adjust your passive skills to select the other 4.
I think that a 5th passive skill would trump a standard slot in an ammy, but IDK if you would want to give up a Countess Julia’s Cameo or one of the other ammys that make you immune to a wide swath of attacks (which you’re probably going to have if you’re in a position to acquire a minimum of 4 each of 4 different types of keys and then take on 2 ubers at a time at T6.)
[Missed edit window] There is no level requirement on this Hellfire Amulet, so you can make one and put it on a brand new character (who would only get the benefit of the passive if it were the same class, which is pointless in D3 since you can change skills and paragon points and follower’s skills, etc… at will.) I’ve enchanted mine already so it’s now BOA (Account Bound), but it most certainly was anyway.
You can do all that on the live realm, too, and have been able to for quite a while. Hellfire amulets are definitely better than any rare amulet, but at the current stage of the game, no serious character has a rare in any item slot, so that doesn’t say much. Yes, another passive is a big deal, but as you say, there’s a lot of competition for that amulet slot.
Oh, I didn’t realize that. I guess I’m just way more cavalier with my hard-earned keys in the PTR. I haven’t seen anything new in the PTR, so I’m just going to play regular again.
If you are incredibly lucky and get an amulet with both good stats and a good passive, Hellfire Amulet is Best in Slot for most (or all) classes … but that requires ridiculous luck. Maybe try after the next patch if it adds the Ancient items, then you might be stupendously lucky and get an Ancient Hellfire Amulet with a good passive and good stats. Probably not, though.
