Diablo 3 May 15th!

Glad to hear it!

I finally reached lvl30 on my DH…doing about 600+ DPS which is still considered LAWNMOWER mode in my book…considering I am still in Normal.

OOC, is anyone else having difficulty searching for or selling gems on the AH (i.e., the total inability to do either)?

(This probably belongs in the gripes thread, but frankly that thread scares me at the moment.)

Is that lawnmower mode with or without Ball Lightning rune on Elemental Arrow.
I’m on Act 2 Inferno with my DH now, I’m a real glass cannon, if something gets into melee range I’m pretty much dead. I’ve learned that I really, really, really don’t like those snake men that go invisible all the time, kind of hard to kite when they’re only vulnerable for a short while after they’ve been in melee range, normal ones are bad, the elite version is…worse. :frowning:

Right after you log in, there’s a breaking news blurb on the right side of the screen that says that commodities auctions are currently disabled, and they’ll bring them back up as soon as they can. Yeah, it’s annoying me, too.

The AH has some issues, aside from the issues with commodities.

I noticed that performing a search won’t always bring up all items. So, there’s a shot that if somebody is selling some equipment you might want, it may not even be visible for bidding.

Okay, I’ve finally assembled the staff of herding (normal mode).

Slaughtering herds of magical ponies is hilarious, creepy, and pretty profitable. I had to town portal out twice to empty my bags.

Yeah, my friends seem to be breezing past me as well. I played D2 some but I never actually even beat it on normal mode. I don’t mind being slow… I’ll get there eventually. I’m hoping that it helps me become a better gamer overall. I’m a berzerker. My general strategy right now is to throw myself in the middle of everything and attack anything that moves. I understand it’s not very effective for later difficulty levels.

I, too, have a Staff of Herding. Anyone wants to visit Whimsyshire, drop me a line if you see me in game. Though level 49 seems to be a bit overpowered for the normal version.

olive, one thing that’ll do a lot towards making that strategy more survivable is heavy use of the Revenge skill. Just keep on healing faster than they’re hurting you.

I got hacked. I logged off Thursday/Friday morn at 3am Eastern, and logged back on Friday night 10:30pm Eastern… I came back and all my stuff was gone, I was naked… Luckily my stuff wasn’t THAT good, and only had about 150k gold on me (went on a blacksmith upgrade tear before logging off).

My guess is it was probably a dictionary attack, my computer is clean, however, my password was very weak. Just never thought it was important enough for one of my high security passwords, so had a very weak password on the account… oh well, live and learn.

Thanks to some of the great dopers (and some other friends), I’m reequipped enough to do nightmare, so I can farm for some better gear… Since I was only in act 1/2 or hell, it’s not that bad of a demotion. Maybe I can find better then I had.

Man, this hacking really blows. As a HC character a malicious hacker could downright wreck me. I live in Japan so getting a physical authenticator would be a real hassle. Better make my password stronger at the very least.

I’ve been reading about hacking attacks elsewhere too, so I plan to get an authenticator after the weekend. It is effing ridiculous that some people out there are trying to steal things that don’t even exist, though. If you had tried to explain that to a random person 20 years ago they’d probably think you were insane.

You don’t have a smartphone?

How does the authenticator work?

Can someone explain Set Items to me? Are the names a different color? How do you know you have a set item? In D2 it was obvious and they were their own class of items. In D3 I have yet to encounter a set item best I can tell and Ive put in about 30 hours or so up into NM.

If they exist they appear to be super rare. I can’t imagine being able to collect an entire set organically.

Set Items have their name in green, in the auction house they are lumped together with the Legendaries(which are orange).

No, I haven’t seen any Set Items drop either, ‘only’ two Legendaries, one in Hell and one in Inferno.

I’m not too worried about the hacking–lots of people on the forums are probably lying (I surmise this from the fact that, if they’ll lie and claim they had an authenticator a the time of the hack, they may well simply lie about having been hacked in the first place), and a Blizzard rep has said the number of reports they’ve had is “extremely small.” (No numbers given, but the context was such as to imply that the number of actual reports pales by comparison to what you’d think by reading the forums.) I think reports are exaggerated.

But hey, if I get hacked it won’t be the end of the world.

It generates a code based on the time and an algorithm unique to the user. After logging in with the username/password, you’re prompted for the code. Default is to have it prompt you for the code once a week if you’re using an IP it recognizes, but you can also set it to prompt you every time.

There’s also the dial-in authenticator, but I’ve heard that that’s useless.

I took your advice and am trying out Revenge. It seems to be working well in concert with War Cry and that passive ability that causes my shouts to regenerate 1% health per second. I also found a skill that reduces my damage by 65% for 5 seconds, with the rune that converts damage dealt to life during that 5 seconds. So when things are going south and I’m in the middle of a clusterfuck, the act of hacking my way out heals me.

Just finished Act I in nightmare. I want to visit Whimsyshire, but I can’t remember where that expensive thing is you have to buy. I couldn’t find it in Act I.

My husband is far enough along on his dissertation that he’s going to play tonight! He’s downloading the game right now. I’m so excited as he’s been waiting for this way longer than I have. Also it will be my first time playing the game with another player in the same room. That’s always all kinds of fun. I think I’m going to be a witch doctor next, alongside his monk. And now for something completely different…

Do shields and off-hands count as weapons or other when using gems?

Shields count as regular items.
