Diablo 4, cross-platform, now in beta

I’ve been playing hardcore the past few days, so far so good. D3 was better for HC though, paragon levels were account wide and infinite so there was always a sense of progression if you made max level.

Apparently hammer of the ancients is bugged and does dramatically less damage if you hit the enemy vs missing and hitting with the shockwave. That’s annoying, especially since I apparently played the whole game nerfing myself.

It’s a cool skill, it sucks that it’s bugged.

You make a valid point. The lag is pretty bad and I’ve had a series of near crashes at pivotal moments in the game, such as finishing a stronghold. Nothing happened during Helltides though.

We decided to earn all the renown. For some reason we started in Hawezar. There we’ve discovered every single area except one I can’t for the life of me find on the map. So I think we are just going to do all the side quests and hope we find it.

Anyone know what’s up with the Fields of Desecration? Not a single monster on it anywhere. Kinda creepy. I assume it’s a World Boss thing.

You got it.

You know when you clear one area of a dungeon and you are walking to the next sometimes you get locked in a room with spikes and a bunch of mobs and two levers? whenever I walk into one of those I get teleported across the room and instantly bump up against the closed exit. It is somewhat disorienting, specially on hardcore. Does this happen to anyone else?

I don’t remember ever seeing that happen to me, that is definitely odd.

Never happened to me. That is weird.

We wandered into a PvP area trying to explore all of the map and a level 100 player just kept slaughtering us. We’re level 58. This is why I hate MMOs and everything to do with anonymous online gaming. The only thing it’s good for is if you see someone rushing out of a tiny alcove, there’s a good chance they just found an Alter of Lilith.

This is what is bad about open world PvP that has no restraint. It leads to toxic behavior. It is inevitable. When New World was created, by naive developers with no experience with PvP, they opened up the PvP so that anyone can do anything to anyone. And it was a debacle, and they curbed the PvP hard.

Fortunately, in D4 the PvP zones are clearly marked and you can just stay out of them. That’s what I do. The only times I’ve ever ventured into them was to grab Altars of Lilith, and I went in, got them, and left immediately, knowing that I could be jumped at any moment while I was in there.

With renown being necessary to level up your character, I wish there was a way to make yourself invisible to pVp players or to mark yourself as “safe” because we could not reach the area we were trying to explore without getting slaughtered (by the same guy.) It was in the middle of an event though, so we will try again later.

So i still love the game but…until you get high enough level to possibly have an ultra rare unique drop…Legendaries are just rares with a different color. All the same to be trashed.

No point in picking up gems after around level 70. No legendary glyphs.

mannnn

It’s even worse than that because most uniques are not going to be any good for whatever build you are using, and even if they are a badly rolled one is useless. That goes twice as much for unique weapons.

I just got a legendary that increases my basic attack speed by 30% which is a complete game-changer for my L58 Druid. The biggest issue with this class is how long it takes to generate resource, and that delay will kill you if you run out in the middle of a pack of elites. Problem solved. Between that and the paragon board options this can be a formidable class. I’m glad I stuck through the crappy early levels.

And sad I have to start this shit all over again in a couple weeks.

That’s just untrue. Legendary items come with aspects that modify your skills, sometimes in a dramatic fashion. Sometimes they work so well that it’s game-breaking. The developers have literally had to disable certain aspects temporarily for being too strong.

There are even builds that rely on a particular aspect to function. They are a big deal and not at all “the same”.

If your point is that aspects can be separated from legendary items, well sure, and you can think of a legendary as a rare with an aspect, because it’s the aspect that’s important. It’s still something you need to pay attention to. If you ignore legendaries as just trash, you are literally playing the game wrong.

Maybe its just my class and where i am in the game. Lvl 76 Sorc. Right now only a unique drop makes me go ‘hmmm’. Havent seen a better aspect in quite a while. Ancestral legendaries are 98 pct. sure to be worse then what im using.

Edgemasters is just up to 20% damage based on the % of your current primary resource, there is no way that was considered OP. It had to just not be working right.

It’s possible. But I remember in beta, picking up a legendary on my Necro that let me just destroy everything. They had to tone it down before release, and now it’s not overpowered anymore. But it was previously, and it wasn’t a bug, just an oversight.

Just randomly, here’s an article talking about powerful Sorc builds and the legendary aspects critical to making them work.

I haven’t leveled a Sorc very high so I can’t vouch for it. But there are some legendaries they’re considered key to the strategies they’ve come up with. Maybe there are better builds which are independent of legendaries. Maybe those builds do something you’re not interested in. I’d understand.

Right now on my main (a Necro mostly using Blood stuff), I don’t have any aspects that are 100% necessary. The ones I have just improve things by a lot. Mostly they boost my damage output or add defense.

One specific aspect, which lets my Blood Mist detonate corpses, is probably the closest I have to a necessary one, because normally all my Blood Mist does is to give me a temporary invincibility period which also heals me a bit and does a bit of damage. That aspect turns the skill into one that does a lot of damage, because I create powerful miasma fields when I detonate corpses, and also regenerates Essence (due to a passive that enables it each time a corpse is consumed in some way). It fundamentally transforms the skill.

So yeah, it’s not like any one aspect defines my build, but added up they make the difference between what content I am able to do and what I’m not strong enough to take on yet.

It also reduces the cooldown with each explosion. There is also another aspect that gives you a speed boost and lets you walk through enemies while unstoppable, ghostwalker I believe, and blood mist counts as unstoppable.

Oh yes! I forgot that part.

Again, not an essential aspect, but pretty close for me.

Im glad to see theres so much interest still in the game around here!

I didnt say i wasnt having fun. I don’t mind a grindy game. As for sorc builds…Im sticking with my lame frozen orb/ kite build I’ve cobbled together myself. I don’t like going for 'most best good in game!!"

When season one rolls out Im going to start a rogue.
