My friend and I that play have this talk at least once a week. I mean, the towns are small, but rather than worrying about the gut rot plague, Lillith, and everything else, we keep saying “You know, there’s exactly one farm (or less) in the whole zone, and I promise, based on the side quests, zero crops have made it into town in months! The cannibal king is arguably the only one acknowledging the issue, although in a horrible way.”
These folks starved to death long before anyone arrived to make things worse.
But I’ll take your suggestion to try to find the humor in the absurdity, it may be effective.
Not that I’ve ever seen. I always assumed (head canon) that each “on screen” individual represented at least 10 IRL as it were persons. Same for the Fallout and Skyrim Series. Both of which do at least a slightly better job of showing the farmers, traders, and the like that would be needed to support their “civilizations”.
Yeah, it’s not great. My build is around lightning, lightning critical strike and critical strike to Vulnerable enemies. It’s like what even is the point of having that stuff on a paragon board if it’s not actually that powerful?
OTOH I won’t be playing that class much longer so other class’ performance is going to seem new to me.
They just want this to be a hard game, I guess. I understand others complained about D3 being too easy, but I took great relish in mowing down mobs. The problem here is it isn’t like a Dark Souls where you have one guy at a time. You have 30-40 at a time and it’s a pain in the ass to have to slog through that many mobs when you’re not all the powerful. Just crossing the map can take forever, and you’re not going to get great XP or items that way.
So I dunno. I’m not really mad, just mildly disappointed, but if the whole game experience is suddenly like my experience with the Barbarian, a joyless slog through every map area, I will not be happy.
One nice surprise, I logged in today and the last 2 areas I was trying to max renown in are maxed for some reason. I was pretty close, just a couple hundred points away, but they did something that must have retroactively boosted rewards because I’m now 100% maxed on everything.
This bugs me. I am a filthy casual. I fully admit it and embrace it. I just want to have fun and not struggle at every turn. That is why I have never purchased an Elden Ring game (or anything like them). Sure, there needs to be some challenge but not frustrating or a slog.
I get there are some out there who play 12 hours per day and have written books on min-maxing. More power to them. But if this game is to be made for them I want my money back (I know that will never happen but this is kind of a bait-and-switch).
That doesn’t matter, I’ve unlocked everything on one character, so whatever my alts did won’t make a difference. Neither one has gotten very far.
But I knew about the map and altar unlock, because I just finished that today (after renown was already maxed). Just completed it, so I’m ready for seasonal play on my soon-to-be new character.
I only play a few hours at most a few times a week, and I’ve been having a great time. As long as you’re not striving to be the first to do everything then there’s no problem playing this game casually.
I’m probably ready for World Tier 4 now, not sure if I’ll bother on my main since I won’t be playing him much for a while.
Well, unless I’m getting rewards from other accounts, not just my own, that’s irrelevant. My highest level alt is 6 and has barely gone anywhere in Fractured Peaks. Plus, I only had a few areas of the map and 3 altars left, and I still had to go get them today to finish up.
They must have increased rewards for previous unlocks. It’s just weird, but still a nice surprise. I wasn’t looking forward to grinding side dungeons, since that was literally the only thing left for me to do to get renown in one area.
For quite a lot of Diablo players they basically would consider you still going through the tutorial so I dunno how relevant balance is in Tier 3. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think most longtime Diablo fans think balance during leveling and the story are nice to haves, but the real game is grinding content at max level.
Every class got an awesome new unique, the sorcerer one has a negative quality that makes it unusable. Apparently it gives a buff to teleport but it makes it teleport you to a random spot instead of where you click. And since teleport is used either as an escape or as an offensive ability this makes it pretty pointless.
Yeah, as someone who played sorcerer quite a bit in beta and is planning to play one in seasonal play, I can tell you it’s a total joke. The teleport skill is AWESOME. You can use it to bypass terrain stuff, you can tie it to great offensive traits (like freezing everyone when you teleport into the middle of them), you can position yourself perfectly with it. It’s one of the reasons why I like the class so much.
Making it random is insane, it’s like saying, here is a car that never runs out of gas but you can’t steer it and it just turns itself randomly.
