Diane slept with Danny last night!

NYPD Blue’s 8th season began last night. I love this show, despite it being a nighttime soap now. It had a great policework storyline, as well as continuing the IAB crap with Jill and Don. And Denby. He’s sober now and still a prick.

I loved how the big black detective (I forget his name) was so nice and symapathetic to the guy who got shot (grazed) in the head until he found out he was in on the robbery, and by association, the shootings. Squeezed his shoulder in that spot! Ow! And I jumped when he slammed the table.

Medavoy was perfect in The IAB interview. Didn’t give them anything! And I liked it when he got out of the interview to find that Lt. Fancy had gone out on the streets (with the big black detective) to arrest the shooters, so he hurries to get there and help, but he’s too late. Fancy had it under control.

So, any comments? Like the show? Hate it?

I saw it. Boy, lil Ricky Schroeder’s all grown up, isn’t he?

I hadn’t watched it in a while, but I’m a little dismayed at how they’re mellowing out Sipowicz’s character. I understand he’s got a sick son and it seems like a lot of bad things happen to him (bad prostate, dead partners, other dead son, etc.), but I liked him better as an a**hole.

I was suprised at one thing, and I wonder whether it’s just the Blue folks taking artistic license or if this really happens.

In one scene they bust in looking for the drug dealer and the little girl of the skell from the pokey (I love that phrase!) and they don’t find them, but they do find a bunch of their associates sitting around partying. Not just weed, but what appeared to be coke and maybe heroin or opium on the table. The woman cop says to one of the women “you can walk out of here if you tell us where they are.” Am I naive, or do cops regularly let people off with that kind of a haul if they’re on the trail of something else? Or, again, is it just artistic license? I remember in another episode Sipowicz wanted to search a guy’s apartment regarding a murder and he said “listen, if you’ve got some weed in there, we’re not going to bust you for it.”

I’d like to think this was so, but maybe I’ve been indoctrinated too much to believe that they can send you away for years just for having a bit of weed if you’ve got bad representation.

FWIW, I’m opposed to the war on drugs. I’m just curious as to whether cops do let people off for offenses like this if they’re on the trail of something else? Or do they just file them away for later attention?

So can anyone else spell “Canandaigua” without looking it up? I learned it so I could spell it right on a history test in the 12th grade. I have completely forgotten what happened in Canandaigua that I was supposed to know.

Well, NYPD Blue kind of lost the thread a while ago, I think, but I still watch it out of habit. Do you suppose they’re going to kill off yet another of Sipowicz’s nearest and dearest? I think they’ve gone that route a bit too many times, but getting rid of that unspeakable child would not be an unwelcome development.

I was also disappointed that they’ve evidently decided to spend the first part of the season on an Internal Affairs investigation based on a character who isn’t even on the show anymore. Yawn. I guess it’s the way they’ll be writing out McDaniels’ character.

As for Danny and Diane – last season’s girlfriend, Mary, is about ten times more interesting than the dreary Diane. (And, really, one backside looks much like another. It’s not revolutionary anymore; put some pants on!)

:disappointed sigh:
I thought this was going to be about Dopers Diane and Danielinthesolvesden.

At least she didn’t sleep with Denby. My gosh, he said all the wrong things, didn’t he?

“You’re not sober, you’re just dry.”

Danny’s no Bobby Simone, but he seems a bit more grown up than he was last year.

Are we ever going to know what’s been bothering him all this time? How does that saying go – if you’re going to put a gun on the mantel in the first act, better use it by the third. First two seasons, he acts like there’s a big secret in his past, something he’s ashamed of. Did I miss the revelation?

Yeah, it’s getting soap opera-ish, but it’s still the only show I won’t miss. The actors who play the bad guys are the best.

My guess about Danny’s secret is that he has a history of being sexually abused as a child. And I agree, they need to go ahead and do something with this storyline.

All butts look the same?? Not by me!
