Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Is anybody else keeping up with this series?

I have to admit, it my newest guilty pleasure. Yes, it’s written for kids (so what … so was Harry Potter) but it’s also funny as hell and completely entertaining. It’s told as a diary but with cartoons added and the cartoons absolutely make the books. Each one can be read in about an hour or so, but I keep going back to them over and over. And remembering my own junior high school days.

Yes, my son loves them and we were reading them aloud at bedtime for a while. Although I have to say, that soon I had to point out that the main character is actually quite the little asshole and never takes any responsibility for his actions…sorry, I gotta be Mom!

I don’t really keep up with it, but I found out about it maybe a couple of years ago when I found my kids giggling uncontrollably over something on the computer. This past Christmas I saw a hard copy edition in the bookstores.

I teach second grade, and occasionally when I’m at school late and am tired, I’ll snag one of my kids’ library books from their book tubs and read part of it. Last year I got completely sucked in by Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Read about half of it before realizing that I had to get home. It’s pretty funny.

My son eats these books up. I find them on the humorous side as well. According to an article in our local paper the 4th installment is actually not too far behind this weeks 3rd book; late summer/early fall if I’m remembering correctly.

I’ve read the first two “Wimpy Kid” books onto tape for the blind. Tremendous fun. I’m looking forward to the third one.

I’ve only read the first one so far, but that one was enough to make my sides ache from laughing. I haven’t had the chance to read any more, but I will as soon as I can get my hands on the next books!

Cheese Touch.

That is all I am gonna say.
