That was my first thought. Would be nice, but GWB seems to prefer to stay out of public life. Still, one can hope that the number of old-school Republicans who recognize the danger that Trump poses continues to grow.
In many ways, yes, absolutely. But in many ways his contributions to the Project for a New American Century that guided much of Bush’s foreign policy was a coherent if grossly misguided and distorted strategy that sought to expand America’s global hegemony. IOW, in his own sick and deluded way that saw America as having a rightful place at the pinnacle of world power, Dick Cheney was an actual patriot, albeit a very misguided one. For all his faults, Cheney would never cozy up to Putin or Kim Jong Un or sell out America to the Russians, steal top secret documents, or give away national security secrets to Russian agents right in the Oval Office. Indeed, Cheney’s policies to strengthen American global power was the exact opposite of the Orange Moron literally telling Putin that he can do “whatever the hell he wants”.
He denies Trump because he has no future in politics, period, so it takes no great courage to do it. But I believe he’s doing it because, just like Liz Cheney, he genuinely fears for the future of his country.
They consider Liz Cheney a RINO. Never you mind that she’s probably with them on most issues, but she didn’t bend the knee to Trump and that’s unacceptable.
Trump is known to embrace Republicans who used to trash talk him just as much as Dick Cheney has. While Dick Cheney doing a 180 next week, endorsing Trump, wouldn’t get him an administration job, assuming a Trump victory, he’d at least get something like a state dinner invite.
And if Trump really becomes a full dictator, a turncoat like Dick Cheney would be at a whole lot bigger chance of arrest than, say, people posting here.
In June 1941, Hitler astonished the world again by invading Germany’s nominal ally Russia, turning it into an ally of Britain. Churchill, a long-time anti-communist, remarked, “If Hitler invaded Hell, I would make at least a favourable reference of the Devil in the House of Commons.”
Yeah; the MAGA faction of the Republicans are a Trump personality cult. Not supporting Trump to them automatically makes someone an enemy of the Republican party, which they regard as properly an extension of Trump’s will and nothing more. So they’ll definitely call Cheney “not a real Republican” for this.
I can see Cheney not being a fan of Trump. This is not the republican party Cheney grew up in and he’d not be a fan. Nevertheless, his support of Harris is surprising. I wonder if part of this, for Dick, is to support Liz? Liz won’t have a political future if Trump/MAGA is in power.
