The reason I ask is that, day before yesterday, Norton reminded me that it was time to renew our subscription. We hadn’t seen an update in quite some time. Now, suddenly, with 30 days to go, we get sent updates two days in a row. Is it possible that Norton is just sending nothing other than a message for its popup to popup in order to make it look like it’s doing its job? Kind of a more urgent reminder of, “Hey, see? You need me!”
I use PC-cillin and have received updates each of the last 3 days. Usually I get about one every week or more.
I run Symantec managed from a central server. I just checked it and we got our update yesterday. The one before that was on the 28th. They seem to come in about once a week–sometimes more if there’s anything new they’re pushing out. You should check with them and see what’s up–there have been regular updates, so I’m not sure why you haven’t gotten them.
Odd coincidence - make that 4 in a row, I just received the update message again.
New versions of MyDoom and Netsky (among others) are appearing everyday. I would recommend a daily LiveUpdate. Especially if you are using Kazaa Gnutella, Bearshare, etc.
DO IT ! I’m tired of receiving 10+ virused e-mail per day
Hey there Libertarian.
We’ve had a busy week with rogue code here at Symantec (we own Norton)
Count yourself lucky if you have recieved only two alerts. Obviously you are not subscribed to any of our lists otherwise you will have seen 18 messages today alone.
We are not in the business of annoying users with annoyware.
Proof of this is in the fact that your product will continue to work and continue to recieve updates if you use Intelligent Updater even if you never update your subscription.
We work on the honour system here (well at least until our ELS is sorted out )
Know that although we make Live Update defintions ordinarily available once a week we have done 6 already this week due to the MyDoom/Beagle vs Netsky pissing contest.
And laura , once a week aint gonna cut it.
We have updates available every day.
By rights you should use CEgetter to pull them down .
PM me your build and I’ll point you at the correct info.
I just received an email from the IT group to run the internet update for Trend. I wonder how many people are actually going to do it?
Thanks, APOC! I have the server set to look for updates everyday–I’ll have to double check that to make sure it’s doing what I’ve told it to. I really hate recalcitrant servers.
