The point of my question is not to discount anything these two evil little sissies did. But if you think the media is kind to Homosexuals, I suggest you read the newspaper someday. You will never see the words “Heterosexual brutally slays wife in front of children” “Heterosexual runs for office” “Heterosexual saves life of drowning child” “Seven Heterosexual Boys guilty In Gang Rape of Young Heterosexual woman.”
The fact that these two murderers are beneath contempt has NOTHING to do with their sexuality, whatever it is. Certainly, if it’s based on the fact the some high school boys called some other High School boys “Faggot” or “Fairy” or whatever, then it is surely unreliable. When I was in High School, and even now when I hear men or boys talking they often call someone they don’t like a Fairy or 'Mo or other term meant to imply homosexuality as a put-down.
My post has to do with the fact that out of all the pain and misery that these two slimeballs caused, Jerry The Anti-Christ Falwell cannot help but politicize it and somehow turn this into an indictment of Gays in general.

It relates to the idea that there should be some credibility placed on one high school clique’s assertion that a clique they don’t like is “gay.” And I think that’s interesting you suggest that the Voice is “defensive” about the subject. What do you think he or she might be being defensive about?

Ahem…Why you would think that stating the obvious is “defensive” is beyond me. But, then I make the mistake of believing that you did think, in the first place. The facts are these – whether a person is Gay or Hetero, has nothing to do with committing disgusting crimes. Whether they be Rape, Murder, Mass Murder or the biggie for Heteros, child molestation. And this first occurred to me way back in '81 or '82 when the “Atlanta Child Murders” were going on. During the trial, while watching GMA or some other morning show, the news caster said, “Wayne Williams denies he’s homosexual.” What the hell does that have to do with murdering little boys?..My point, and perhaps if you re-read my response you will get it, is if someone commits a horrible crime, I don’t know what their sexuality has to do with it. Ted Bundy, for instance, who murdered women was never referred to as “Heterosexual Mass Murderer Strikes again”… But that scumball Jeffrey Dahmer was referred to as a homosexual in every thing printed or spoken about him. And although Heterosexuals are responsible for the vast majority of sex crimes (disproportianatly so) whether against adults or children…I have never seen “Heterosexual man rapes 5 year old girl”. Yet read an article about any open homosexual…it is included in the article. Additionally, several years back, a male karate instructor abducted one of his young students. He took him to another state and raped him and molested him. They did catch him, the boy was returned. I won’t say unharmed…obviously a child is sacred and not fodder for evil sexual deviants of any persuasion. What was very telling though, was that when the police brought him back, the father of the boy blew the kidnappers head off, in the airport. He was given a suspended sentence or probation…a very light sentence at any rate. A few years later, out west I believe, A HETEROSEXUAL man abducted and repeatedly raped a little girl. He was caught and during the trial taunted the girls mother. Finally, the woman blew his head off in court. She was and may still be, in prison. So, I guess if a heterosexual commits heinous acts against a child, it’s not so bad. Is that your point?

The point is that a person’s sexual identity has nothing to do with whether or not they are murderers, child molesters, Senators, bus drivers or, heroes (as in the case of Oliver Sipples, a Gay man who saved the life of President Ford…and begged the media to keep his life private…they didn’t)Barney Frank is always the Gay Congressman from Mass., Martina Navratilova is always the Lesbian tennis player. My point about Shepherd WAS valid. Sexuality was an issue in that case (the killers being gay-haters) and it was in the Versace killing. So it was reported. In a run-of-the-mill murder, it’s not, so it isn’t.
It seems that your key problem is that you are upset that people notice sexuality. Maybe they shouldn’t. But they do. If a dwarf kills his wife, the headline’s gonna say “Dwarf murders wife,” because people notice these things. If I get divorced nobody cares, but if Bruce Willis does it’s front-page news in China. If you’re different–dwarf, celebrity, gay, whatever–people will notice you. You can wish it wasn’t that way, but it is, and always will be.
And many gay people can deal with that. Most of my gay freinds (yes I have them) sometimes even revel in their differentness. That’s really the only thing you CAN do. For the large majority of recorded history, homosexuality has made the vast majority of heteros uneasy, and a few of them hostile. We can say they shouldn’t, we can wish they didn’t, but that’s juat the way it is. Maybe it’ll change someday. But something as seemingly deep-seated in human nature as this isn’t going to change with a few hours of therapy or a freshman course on tolerance.
That’s not to say that gays should be marginalized. Absolutely not. But to hope that someday something that far out of the ordinary–if its known–will never cause one problems is naive.
