Did anyone else like FX's Unsupervised?

This show didn’t get renewed, and they just showed the last three episodes that they held back from the spring. When I first saw the promos for it I though, BLEEECH!, another committee-made, focus-group tuned, godawful show from TV executives trying to be ‘hip’ and ‘edgy’ with adult animation.

But as it turned out, I thought the show was really really good! Adult Swim good. It was made by the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia gang, and it had original stories, believable, fleshed-out, flawed but likable characters, and most of all it never sold out with ‘message-y’ or overly ‘happy’ endings the way you would have expected a show about teenagers to. It used TV-MA language and some hard core adult stories, but very realistically not gratuitously. I’ve watched each episode several times and they all stand up to multiple viewings. Plus I love that gritty yet cartoony animation style, the same kind Archer uses.

Don’t think I saw it mentioned here much though. Sorry to see it go.

Yes! I liked it! Definitely Adult Swim good. Not too silly and not too sappy. I thought the boys were realistic. I liked the landscape. Didn’t think it was going to come back, though - never heard a peep about it.

Yeah, doesn’t look like many Dopers noticed it either!!

Oh, I though the “new” episodes that came up in my DVR were part of an abbreviated new season. I thought it could have developed into something memorable given some more time. Oh well.

I saw a few episodes and liked them OK but never really sought it out. I was so/so on it.

It’s one of my very favorite shows of recent years, primarily because of the relentless positivity of Gary and Joel. They’re not delusional about things, but they nonetheless retain their optimism and their conviction that things can be made better. I loved watching those guys.
