Did anyone else watch the return of MADtv?

Beside me, that is?

It was kind of OK. New cast but they also had Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan back from the original cast. Apparently next week they will have Ike Barinholtz and Bobby Lee.

They also showed one of the old Peele and Key ‘Man Up’ sketches.

Nope. Hated it the first time around. I thought it was every bit as much an embarrassment to MAD magaine as Up the Academy was. Bill Gaines would never have allowed it.

Do they like their own characters any better than the originals did?

I never got the feeling that the actor liked the Chinese “He looka lika man” lady, or the man baby thing. Sorry don’t remember any names. (Google google google) Ah Stuart. Holy crap that’s painfully unfunny.

On SNL, you could tell that Dana Carvey loved Church Lady.

We liked it. Would have liked it more if we knew anything about Game of Thrones, probably…

The joke with the first Game of Thrones sketch with the couple on the couch is pretty much just how confusing GoT is because there is just so much going on all at once that it’s hard to keep track sometimes.

The second one at the end with the guy, Ned Stark*, in the chair and the girl next to him is just making fun of Trump and his skeeviness towards Ivanka.

I liked it. Going to give it a shot. Gotta get used to the new cast and characters.

I thought the guy who played Trump was great. He’s got the Trumperisms down. The skit with Trump/Bill/Hillary on the Newlywed Show, or whatever they were parodying, was great. Will as Bill was great.

Kenny Rogers was one of my favorite characters from the old show and I was delighted to see him in a skit. Still funny.
*Ned Stark was one of the good guys so him talking like Trump the way he was for me was the joke. The juxtaposition.

Stuart totally fucking rocked! “Look what I can do!”

Them doing Bill and Hillary Clinton was very funny, especially when she whacked him. Those impressions are really good. The rest of the episode, not funny. I won’t be watching it again.

Some classic episodes can be viewed for free at the CW site.

I liked the Newlywed Game sketch. And Kenny Rogers as the Bachelor. The Game of Thrones stuff might have been funnier if I ever watched Game of Thrones. I did think the Ned Stark stuff nailed Trump’s skeeviness even with not knowing who Ned Stark was.

I made it ten minutes in and turned it off. I always liked the show but I think it probably belongs in the past.

I watched about 5 minutes of it. I liked the original. What I saw was entirely unfunny, I didn’t even crack a smile. Some skit about self-defense training. But what made it completely unwatchable for me was the laugh track. It was the kind that just sounds really fake and every single joke is met with unrestrained guffaws from the “audience”. I don’t think you’d get that many laughs out of a real audience if you gave them mushrooms an hour before the show started. It was ridiculous.
