Did I just see Elliot masturbating on Scrubs?

I mean, surely not. It’s network TV. Right?

But flipping through the channels, I caught a glimpse of Elliot sitting on the corner of a shaking washing machine, looking like… well… looking very passionately happy.

Then she fell off the washing machine at the same time that Zach Braff’s voice ended some phrase with the word “balance.” Haha.

Anyway, I mean, did I just see what it looked like I saw?

Points supporting the view that I did:

-The look on her face, and her body language
-The vibrational, pubic-ly focussed aspect of the scene.

Points supporting the view that I didn’t:

-It’s network TV
-Seems like that would bruise pretty bad.

It’s two against two.

Who’s seen this episode? What is the explanation?

I remember that episode, and yep- that’s what you saw.

I don’t think it was QUITE masturbation, but it was close enough. Earlier in the episode, Carla and Turk had been upset about her first-ever failure to achieve orgasm while in bed with him; when Carla told Eliot about this, Eliot replied that she had never had a single orgasm (despite the fact that she tends to use sex as an ice breaker). Carla then recommended the washing-machine route as an…ah…frozen pussy breaker.

I confess I’m really suprised that this aired.

I don’t mind, I’m just suprised.

I seem to remember Jaime on “Mad About You” resorting to the same technique once, and that was years ago.

It was also used in the movie, Four Brothers. (Just FYI for anyone interested.)

ETA:

Just saying that it’s apparently a common gag.

It’s network primetime tv yeah but you see a lot worse. Just on Scrubs alone there’s a good bit of cleavage, sexual innuendo…one time Turk had a very vivid and naughty dream about Eliot that was shown. People are always tearing eachother’s clothes off and stuff.

So a fully-clothed Eliot making a happy face on a dryer? No big deal. And of course they deal with it in true Scrubs fashion by having her fall off said dryer at the end

not that I’ve ever watched a full episode of Scrubs, but last year there was the following line on the Simpsons, when Homer was going to confession:

I’ve masturbated 50,000 times, and plan to do it 50,000 times in the future.

that line caught me off guard more than any other point in the history of the show, with the possible exception of Ned Flanders saying “hey Homer, BITCHIN bike!”

Anyway, my point is, masturbation jokes have made it to primetime TV. Come to think of it, there was an entire episode of Roseanne back in the 80s about DJ masturbating too much. I still remember Roseanne yelling to him in his room to “come down for dinner, and WASH YOUR HANDS!”

also makes an appeatrance in the 1988 John Candy opus Great Outdoors

Connie Ripley: Why don’t you go find yourself a spin cycle!

No kidding, but what I was expressing suprise about was the actual portrayal of the act on network primetime TV.

I guess the question remaining for the Male dopers is:

Does it work?

Male dopers?

I remember the first time I heard “Damn” on TV. I think it was Archie Bunker. God I’m old.

Perhaps Unintentionally Blank doesn’t realise that the character Elliot is a girl.

I can only assume that he’s not familiar with the show …

I suspect UB’s intention was “the question for the female Dopers, on behalf of the male Dopers, is…”

I thought that, but I have this fear of being whooshed…

That episode had, IMHO, one the funniest lines ever in the history of comedy. The parents were contemplating whether the boy was masturbating, and Roseanne said something like “Are you sure? He’s so young.” and then Dan said “Maybe he’s gifted…”.

I remember the scene well, and yes, I think she was finding a whole new reason to enjoy doing her laundry.

Dunno if it actually has that effect on the ladies IRL, though.

My favorite line was when Roseanne asked DJ what he was going upstairs to do and he replied “Dad told me not to talk about it.”

Gotta love Dan’s parenting style.
