Did Kamala Harris work at McDonalds?

We are now over 300 posts, still talking about this stupid and irrelevant topic. There are more words written about it here than the entire rest of the internet.

But your “one thing” is exactly my point. So she was with McD’s employees at the time. Would they really have said, “Get your Burger King making ass out of here, wench!”? I mean, there might have been a bit of good-natured rivalry talk, but in the end, they’d all agree she knows a lot more about what they’re dealing with than Trump ever will.

Trump often lies in situations where the truth would still work, because he’s incapable of not lying. But Harris? Why lie when the truth works just as well?

Is this a joke?

You’ve posted how many times about a similar Trump claim (Harris never worked at McDonald’s) without questioning it entirely, so that’s just false.

And also because it’s inconceivable that Trump would have worked at a McDonald’s under any circumstances. I can’t even imagine hm working at Trump Village as a teenager as he apparently claimed - but that’s more believable than McDonald’s.

Except that isn’t close to being true. I sometimes forget about the self-imposed bubble that’s around many of the posters here. I try very hard to read sources from all over and I suppose that affects my algorithm. People are still getting hit with it. Why? Because it’s easily meme-able and it fits with one of the Trump talking points: Kamala is a phony. What do you think more voters see, a long well thought out article in a respected publication or a meme they can chuckle at? Luckily I think the Harris campaign is more in tune with the modern information landscape than many of the posters here. It matters because it’s out there and voters are still getting hit with it.

So the Russians like the accusation. Do any actual voters give a damn?

“Starting with the fact that Kamala is a phony…” is assumed but (deviously) unsaid by far too many people, and it is hard to combat this because you will be accused of combatting something that isn’t officially said aloud.

Yes. Obviously. But how many of them are anything but loyal Trumpers is the question.

Agree. I should have made that distinction. People who will never vote for her are probably interested.

Let’s assume for a moment that this matters to undecided voters, or soft Harris voters, or some group that isn’t already voting for Trump. How could Harris even address this ridiculous claim?

We already know that providing proof in the form of an actual birth certificate along with a statement from the local registrar didn’t do anything to get people to believe Obama (who were already disinclined to believe him). Any documentation that Harris would produce would be even less official.

Yeah, interested in asking gotcha questions that might trip her up, no matter how superficial they are. There is no answer whatsoever that will please them.

Yup, I walked away from this burning Long John Silver dumpster fire a while ago. I made some mistakes in the OP so some of that is on me, but the Dope is a strange place and sometimes nonsense erupts even in a Factual Questions forum on a site dedicated to fighting ignorance.

Sometimes nonsense erupts in life.

You asked a factual question about whether she worked at McDonalds, expecting people who could not possibly know the actual factual answer to answer. Were you expecting someone here to have been her manager or co-worker? This was an IMHO or PE/GD question from the start.

Or, I guess the first response could have been “I don’t see how anyone at the SDMB could possibly know the factual answer to this.” And, you could have responded with “I suppose that’s true” and asked a moderator to shut it down.

One thing I wonder is how many lies Trump told today. Did he lie to Melania when he was getting ready to leave? (Naw, she probably wasn’t there.)

Did he lie to his housekeeper about who shat on the floor (poor aim)? Did he lie to the Secret Service agent that escorted him to breakfast (did he get McDonalds delivered?)

There are a million lies to worry about from Trump. My brain is too full of possible Trump lies just today to bother with the unlikely possibility that Kamala Harris worked a fast food job that wasn’t McDonalds, but she said it was.

Seriously, this is the ridiculous double standard that Harris is being held to. Trump is out there lying that he never met E. Jean Carroll and that he never sexually assaulted her and that she made it up after watching Law & Order. And somehow whether or not Harris actually had a summer job at McDonalds is a larger determining factor for whether someone should vote for her?

“Well, she lied about a McDonalds job, I guess I’ll have to vote for the muliple felon who sponsored an insurrection to overturn the election and continually lies about voter fraud, both in 2020 and upcoming in 2024.”

Do you see how stupidly ridiculous that is? That should be the response of anyone other than Harris encountering someone asking if she really worked at McDonalds or lied.

“Why don’t you believe her? Why are you so concerned about that, when Trump lies about the election, lies about his own policies, lies about Harris’s statements about her own ethnicity?”

Frankly, my direct answer to anyone who asks me about that will be, “Are you a dumbass?”

And that’s why she didn’t lie.

I mean, come on, Kamala Harris knows who she is. She knows what she is. And she was paying attention the last two decades. She went into this knowing that everything she said was going to be put under a microscope, and even if it were the whole truth and nothing but the truth, the Republicans would still talk shit about her.

Why would she hand them an easy win with such a trivial lie?

I don’t necessarily disagree with your sentiment, but how many votes do you think your approach would bring to the Democrats? The way to win this game is to get the most votes. That’s it. The quality of the voters don’t matter. The only thing that matters is who they vote for. Taking an approach of it’s a double standard is fine from a moral or philosophical perspective, but if it doesn’t bring votes to the Democrats, it is a losing strategy. I’m not advocating for Harris to prove it because I need the proof. I want her to prove it because I think it will help the vote count that goes to the Democrats. Whether or not she should have to because of a double standard is an academic exercise. How it affects the votes is the criteria that should be used because the number of votes is the only thing that matters.

The question has been answered.

And the way to get the most votes is almost certainly not to join in a long squabble with a batch of liars about trying to prove, to a batch of liars, that you told the truth; when the liars will keep on repeating that you lied anyway. Louder, because any bully presses harder if they think they got under your skin.

It won’t. It’ll only increase the amount of air/internet time that the claim that she’s lying about it gets.
