I can’t find the post now but in the election running commentary thread a few people indicated that the GOP expected to win all round despite Democrat optimism which was based on polls.
I always expected that true Trumpers would insist they would win through. But the GOP’s less loony (but still detestable) wing - the McConnells and Grahams - I always assumed were bracing for a drubbing, and must be relieved that they were spared while Trump was not.
I guess that’s incorrect? Do you think the GOP is relieved about the result or disappointed?
Not just relieved — absolutely delerious with joy. They’re finally rid of the imbecile, yet they (very likely) retain the Senate, and even made gains in the House…and the legions of voters who will obviously never vote for a Democrat, come hell or high COVID, grew by millions. Now they can do what they do “best”: be obstructionist and avoid blame for anything, while continuing to wield real power. Plus 2020 census gerrymandering, thanks to state legislature victories! And they got what they needed most from Trump: three Supremes, and thousands of other judges.
They’re thrilled.
