Did The X-Files do an episode set in every state of the Union?

The question came up in the comments for the latest issue of Monster of the Week, one of Shaenon K. Garrity’s webcomics. Shaenon is going through every episode of the X-Files and every Friday she posts a comic about one more episode. Usually the comics are hilarious summaries of the episodes, although there have been a couple of notable variants.

Today’s episode is set in Rhode Island. Shaenon’s comment under the comic is: “Did The X-Files do an episode set in every state of the Union? Because having a Rhode Island episode feels like an effort to finish some kind of checklist.” The fans begin to speculate in the forum below the comic, but since they’re not the Dope, they haven’t come up with an answer, yet.

I know I’m going to fiddle with it, but I’m slow. If you wait for me, you may never know. Feel free to fill in. And to comment. Mocking counts as a comment.

I’m starting slow:

There was never a Hawaii episode, so the answer is no.

Piper Maru contained a scene where a WWII submarine goes to Pearl Harbour.

My favorite episode, “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space”, was set in Washington.

Arkansas - Our Town, set in Dudley, Arkansas (home of Chaco Chicken)

I’m not going to use the quote function, listing every state again!

There was one in Wisconsin, though off the top of my head I can’t remember which it was. I especially noticed the mountains in the background. Must have been in the anti-driftless zone; it drifted all the way to Vancouver BC.

Aha! Fallen Angel, season 1.

Nevada - Dreamland and Dreamland II, set at/near Area 51
New Mexico - Anasazi / The Blessing Way

Can’t remember if The Beginning, season six opener, was in CA or AZ.

Does the movie count for Texas?

Oh man, someone has already did the work:

http://www.baymoon.com/~xfmaps/statemap.html

State by state map of X Files episodes. Is there nothing someone won’t obsess over, AND make a website?

BTW, RI has three eps featured there.

States With No Episodes
Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Wyoming

Our work here is done.

Ninja’d. I’m going to go through it. Should I ask if they included the movies? I never watched those, so I don’t know if they might add a state or not.

Looks like the site does not include the movies (not that it necessarily makes any difference), but it does include an international map. http://www.baymoon.com/~xfmaps/worldmap1.html

The international map shows that Puerto Rico (territory) was visited in Season 2, Episode 1: Little Green Men.

Yeah, that wraps it up.

Thanks, Just Asking.

No.
Furthermore, there’s already porn of that map somewhere. Somehow.

GOD I love the Internet !

I have to say that the site isn’t entirely complete. For example, the episode Drive (6x02) is marked on the map only in Nevada. But Scully and Mulder are doing grunt work in Idaho when it starts, and it ends at the coast of California, neither of which are marked on the map. I’m not sure if we know the city for either of the ID or CA scenes, so perhaps the map-maker is only marking specifically known locations.

In any event, it leaves some room for us fans to maybe match episodes to some of those missing states.

Fictionally go or actually go?

I didn’t want to take the fun out of it! I was all set to rewatch some episodes to get data. Finding the question not only answered but mapped took the wind right out of my sails. I feel like Alexander the great - I am sad for there are no more worlds to conquer. Everything has been done, everything has been invented.

But I am NOT looking for the porn version of that map!

Damn, I started to type these out but the window closed abruptly.
Here’s a site that maps them out. But no, not every state has an episode. Several states have more than one.
http://www.baymoon.com/~xfmaps/statemap.html

Good catch. So, things that could be added are:

Locations from the movies,
Additional states visited (would probably work better in a list than in a map),
aaaand . . . there has to be something else.

Someone could draw a connect-the-dots type map. And isn’t there a map ap that allows you to drive your route? This is, of course, way more work than I’m ever likely to do. But it’s fun to think about.
