TV Show for Every State

I’ve been trying to come up with a TV show for every state, and I thought I’d post my list so far, and see if Dopers can fill in the blanks.

The make it more interesting, I’m doing several major cities in California, and one for each borough in New York City, plus Long Island, and then trying to come up with a show set somewhere else in New York State, outside the metropolitan area.

Any series counts, whether it was on a cable channel, or a network, but I’m trying to stick with fiction; no reality shows, news shows, talk shows, etc.

Also, I’d like to try to list every US show I can think of that wasn’t set in the US. I know that will mostly end up being military shows, and shows with fantasy locations, but it’s still interesting, and I’d like to see how many we can come up with.

Here’s my list so far:

Alabama
Alaska: Northern Exposure
Arizona: Medium
Arkansas
California
Los Angeles: Dragnet
Sacramento
San Francisco: Monk
Colorado: South Park
Connecticut: Soap
DC: Bones
Delaware
Florida: CSI: Miami
Georgia
Hawaii: Hawaii-50
Idaho
Illinois: Roseanne
Indiana: One Day at a Time
Iowa: Apple’s Way
Kansas: Gunsmoke
Kentucky
Louisiana: The Big Easy
Maine: Murder, She Wrote
Maryland
Massachusetts: The Practice
Michigan
Minnesota: The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Mississippi: In the Heat of the Night
Missouri: Switched at Birth
Montana
Nebraska
Nevada: Reno 911
New Hampshire
New Jersey: House
New Mexico
New York
The Bronx : The Goldbergs (the old one, from the 1950s)
Brooklyn : The Patty Duke Show
Manhattan: Law & Order
Queens : All in the Family
Staten Island
Long Island
State
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio: The Drew Carey Show
Oklahoma
Oregon
Pennsylvania: Cold Case
Rhode Island: Providence
South Carolina
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas: King of the Hill
Utah
Vermont: Newhart
Virginia: The Waltons
Washington State: Twin Peaks
West Virginia:
Wisconsin: Happy Days
Wyoming

Shows outside the US:
Cafe American: France
Embassy: England
MAS*H: Korea
Hogan’s Heros: Germany (or was the camp somewhere else?)
Combat!: Europe
Fantasy Island: unknown
Gilligan’s Island: uncharted island off Hawaii
Lost in Space: outer space
Star Trek: various made up planets, or just space, occasionally “alternate” earths
The Love Boat: international water

I tried to format that with indentations and tabs, but some formatting key posted it before I was done. Sorry.

This thread may save some time.

I would switch House with either the Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire. In House the location is strictly incidental to the show. I think they only filmed here once during the entire run.

“Daniel Boone” for Kentucky

Thanks!

Evening Shade appears to still be the only fictional series actually set in Arkansas, at least of shows that Wikipedia thinks are notable. I’ve never heard of the show, and my first thought was The Simple Life, a reality show.

Yes, Designing Women is listed there, but I’m not sure why. Yes, one of the exterior shots was a Little Rock house, and one of the characters previously lived in Arkansas, but the show makes no bones about being set in Georgia.

Maryland: The Wire, *Homicide * (both set in Baltimore)

The Mentalist takes place in Sacramento. Three’s Company took place in San Diego.

I believe Eight is Enough may have been the only other show set in Sacramento.

For Nevada, I’d recommend *Bonanza *over Reno 911.

And for New Mexico, Breaking Bad, set (and actually filmed) in Albuquerque.

Friday Night Lights over King of the Hill for Texas, definitely.

North Carolina: The Andy Griffith Show/ Mayberry RFD

Miami Vice is not about Miami, Oklahoma

Saving Grace for Oklahoma
.

New Mexico is definitely Breaking Bad.

Can we (finally) upgrade Wisconsin from Happy Days. Since then we had Laverne & Shirley, The Young & The Restless, Step by Step and finally ended up with That 70’s Show. I’d like to submit That 70’s Show as a suitable replacement for Happy Days. Coincidentally, they’re both set in the same period, but That 70’s Show modernizes us by a generation…sort of.
I’m not sure why Mork & Mindy wasn’t set in Milwaukee as well, I only watched the reruns here and there in the late 80’s, but somehow it ended up on Colorado.

Long Island would be Everybody Loves Raymond

Without looking at the other threads on this subject or Wikipedia, I can come up with…

Michigan - Home Improvement
Staten Island - Blue Bloods
Oregon - Hello, Larry (a short-lived sitcom starring McLean Stevenson)
Tennessee - Nashville
Utah - Big Love
Wyoming - The Virginian

Thought of another one:

Ontario, Canada - Flashpoint (it aired on CBS for part of its run, but they were a bit coy about where it was set during that period)

Isn’t GRIMM set in Oregon as well?
