Did this thread really NEED to be locked?

It was open for 8 hours today. It got 6 worthwhile replies. And it was asking for advice in GQ, so it was locked. That’s it, that’s the whole reason. Not moved, just closed. (And really, 8 hours for someone to notice a thread is off-topic in GQ? With 4 mods? Methinks at least some of the mods looked at it and didn’t think it was off-topic.)

I understand the mods don’t like to move threads, especially when the board is slow. I applaud that. But given that, I’d much prefer that the misguided threads, at least ones that have replies, be left in the wrong place, open, rather than be locked. Closing them kills what was a productive discussion. How does that help anyone?
