Colibri locked this thread in GQ because the responses were “statements of opinion.” Then he says “start another thread in either IMHO or the Pit.”
Why? Why not just move the existing thread to the place where its existing content actually belongs? Locking it will drop it off the GQ front page in time, but it keeps the inappropriate content and (if there is another thread) splits the debate to no clear purpose.
We actually already have a similar thread.

I have reopened the thread at the request of the OP.
In this particular case, I closed the thread rather than moving it to IMHO because people had begun squabbling with each other about driving methods. I figured that if people wanted to discuss their opinions it would be better to start off with a “clean” thread without the acrimony. (On the other hand, the thread hadn’t gotten so out of hand that it required a move to the Pit).
I have reopened the thread with an instruction to stick to GQ responses and to drop the bickering. So far, people seem to be doing so.
