Why did the GQ thread get closed instead of moved?

And why was there no explanation, no warning, no nothing?

(I refer to my thread regarding science and life on other planets)

If it was becoming less GQ-ish, don’t you think it should have been moved to GD? OR IMHO?

It was obviously an interesting discussion, I think it was really rude and unnecessary to simply shut it down.

This abiogenesis thread.

And I just came to ask the same thing. No warning issued. With the exception of someone calling me a crazy jackass, no untoward behaviour that I could see.

So why close it rather than moving to GD?

Can we open a duplicate GD thread without being stomped?

Because you didn’t wait five minutes for me to finish composing my post at the end of the thread.

Here.

You are welcome to start a new thread in GD. I closed the GQ one because I thought it had become too heated to move.

As I noted in closing the GQ thread, please stop posting in a huge font that makes it look as if you are shouting. That’s one of the things (but not the only thing) that prompted me to close the thread.

Noted Colibri. BTW, no warning for the poster who called me a jackass?

Starting new thread. It may take some time, so please, no duplicates.

It wasn’t reported, and I did not see it in skimming through the thread. Please report posts that you think require moderator attention.

I checked the thread. I’ve issued a moderator note to the offending poster rather than a warning, because the insult was not severe, and he doesn’t have other recent infractions. But just the fact that remarks like that were starting to fly about was another reason to close it.

For those interested, the Blake’s new thread is here.

Oh. I was unaware that mods can and do post after the closing. Thanks!

If an argument is getting really heated, I usually close it first to keep people from making posts I might have to end up giving warnings for.

Then I post the reason, and may go through the thread to see if any other action needs to be taken. This may take a few minutes.

Close first, ask questions later. Fastest mod in the west.
