Tried going outside once in my last town. Walked right, searched, found nothing. Walked right, searched, found scrap metal. Walked right, searched, found a stick.
Realizing I only had 2 points remaining, I walked back left 2 squares and was stuck outside. Left it on ‘escort’ mode hoping someone would bring me back into town. No such luck, and died that night.
6 points just doesn’t seem like enough to explore with, considering the size of the map. Even with drinking water, 12 points still isn’t much. Am I doing that wrong?
Most people get 18 AP a day…you get 6 to start off, 6 if you drink your daily water, and 6 if you eat something. You didn’t eat anything, so you never got that extra 6 AP.* Always make sure you have food for the day.
You also get 6 AP** from drugs, although it takes away your clean status and makes you “drugged” for the rest of the day…however if you take more than one drug a day, you become “hooked”*** and then need a drug a day for the rest of the game or else you die of withdrawal.
You also get 6 AP from alcohol…and alcohol does NOT COUNT as daily food or a drug if you’re already “drugged”
So that’s a potential 30 AP you can safely get every day, assuming you find a drug and alcohol every day.
You did have some crappy luck in your searches, though. I usually find a useful object (either for myself or town) at least once every square. Remember to STAY IN ONE PLACE for awhile and let autosearch do its thing. Very useful. You can go away from the game for hours and come back and find all this cool stuff.
*If you are ever lucky enough to find a Tasty Steak, this will actually give you 8 AP (two bonus AP)
**If you use Twinoid, it will give you 8 AP (two bonus AP).
***Try not to use Unlabeled Drugs, they have a chance (1 in 4) of making you “hooked” automatically/immediately even if you just took one.
I decided to throw my hat in the ring last night. I’m pretty confused about what the heck is going on, but I’m letting myself gradually get sucked in.
I gotta admit, at first I didn’t want to play this because I’ve had experience with ‘free’ browser games in the past that suck you in, then want money in order to have fun. This game however is completely fun to play without paying. The pay options add a few bonuses, but as long as your town has a couple people who have paid, the other 36 or so can do just fine.
We’re up to day 8 on my current town. Day 9 looks unlikely to happen.
I joined yesterday evening. By the time I went to bed there weren’t enough materials to build any worthwhile (at day 1) construction projects, so I put some points into erecting a tent. Apparently that provides some value to personal survival as well as the overall town defenses…true?
I did wander outside twice, accruing a copper pipe and rotted log (I put those in the bank, of course).
Well, I died in my last town because some idiot closed the gate many hours before attack time and I couldn’t get anyone to open it. Started again tonight and same thing happened on the first day (except this time someone opened it).
I can see this game is probably like this until you can actually choose your own town.
Yes, but until reaching a certain number of days, it isn’t as an efficient use of points as building some of the buildings. The town gets 40% of the defense of your personal home. I’ve found building the first 2 upgrades seems worth it. Once you get to the upgrades that need boards to complete, stop. The resources are better off used by the town.
Now once you hit around day 9 or so and the town is running out of things to build, it’s probably a good use of points to upgrade your house higher.
If you have points but don’t feel comfortable going scavenging and there aren’t buildings, consider turning rotting logs into twisted planks, or scrap metal into usable stuff. Click the “Works” button to get to this screen.
To answer Moe’s question: YMMV, but I’ve been in 4 towns so far. The first one I died outside. The next two went okay-ish, but I died early to newbie mistakes. My current town we have 22 people left alive on Day 10, looks like we might make at least Day 12. There’s lot of coordination going on on the forums, with a few people designated for opening/closing the gate, a few people leading expeditions across the map, etc. I’m amazed at the level of coordination that has resulted from 40 random people.
Long story short, some towns suck, some towns are awesome. It’s kind of random.
