About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. Now I never was a big candy, cookie or cake eater, but I drank a lot of pop. I switched to diet which I thought I could never drink.
Now… I can’t stand regular pop.
Diet Pepsi, Diet Barq’s Root Beer and Faygo diet redpop are my favorites.
It is much better than regular, but I think that the diet Code Red Mountain Dew is better than it is. But the best is the diet Vanilla Coke. I haven’t tried the diet Vanilla Pepsi yet.
Here’s another vote for Crystal Light. If you frequent Wal-Mart, their Great Value Crystal Light knock-off is pretty good. Try the lemon flavor.
When I get a fountain drink, it’s usually a Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi with just a little bit of cherry, strawberry or in a pinch, Dr. Pepper in it. It tastes much better than the diet cherry colas. I think that it’s worth the extra calories.
If there’s a Sonic Drive-In near you, try ordering a Diet Coke with lime. It’s yummy.
I used to drink diet pop like mad. 8-10 cans per day. Then I started to get nasty headaches - every day. I was taking ibuprofin and acetominaphin all the time, with little relief.
One day, I stopped drinking diet pop, cold turkey.
The headaches stopped. I rarely have them anymore.
I second (or third or fourth or whatever we’re up to now) the motion on Crystal Light. I buy the local knock-off brand (Big Y, I think) and it’s just fine at around half the price.
If you would rather something carbonated, I’ve recently taken to those “Clear and Natural” sodas (or one of the knockoff brands). They are available at most supermarkets and I get them for around $3 a six-pack (quart bottles, I believe) at BJ’s Wholesale Club. They’re not “diet” tasting at all, and have no calories.
I was drinking lots of DC; new store opened and was selling cases (24, 12 ounce cans) for $1.99. I believe the headaches I was getting was from when I ran out of my caffeine fix. I would stand in my kitchen with a hand full of ibuprofen and/or acetaminophen and look at the water but would have to run to the store for (my fix) some DC so I could take my pills. I believe I was needing the DC for caffeine no need for the headache pills.
What is bad about the sweeteners? Why stay away if on a diet?
I rarely get headaches. Lately I have been getting a few migraines though. Not sure if it’s the 10 cans of pop or the 3 packs of cigarettes. Man, I’m a walking time-bomb.
I finally picked up some of that lightly flavored water. It wasn’t too awful expensive, but I can probably get it even cheaper at Wally World. I’m going to try tap water for just plain water, wish me luck on that one.
I used to drink diet pop all the time, but I drink maybe one a day now at most. Fresca is easily the best diet pop out there. All the other pops mentioned in this post I can’t drink because I just end up wanting the real version. By the way diet pop is not necessarily better for you than juice. Diet pop is void of any nutrition, where juice has plenty of vitamins and minerals. Diet pop might be better if you are trying to lose weight, but not in any other situation.
HA!!! I have to revive this thread for one more post. I stopped into a gas station today and I decided to pick up a pop for the ride home. I got a bottle of this dark green window-washer looking stuff called Bong Water. HAHAHA!!! Not too bad really
Yeah, but for those of us who have cut sugar out of their diets, juice is bad. It’s basically sugar water. I’d rather get my vitamins and minerals from something not so loaded with sugar. I have noticed many postive changes in myself after quitting all sugar.
I tried some of that flavored water with Aspartame from Wal Mart, and it was too sweet.
After drinking plain water the majority of the time for the last 3 months, it is what I crave now.
Diet Dr. Pepper is the only diet drink that does not taste diet.
That said, I am a Diet Coke freak. Love it. Stopped drinking coffee in the mornings and have a glass of that instead. I can’t even drink a regular Coke anymore…aside from the calorie standpoint, I just can’t take the sugary taste.
At work I drink only bottled water. And at home, I freeze small water bottles and put them by the bed at night…whenever I wake up thirsty in the middle of the night, I have cold water.
