Diogenes, go take a nap

But it’s the law, therefore you recognize it’s validity, right?

It’s a message board. Replying to someone’s post and/or challenging their supposedly factual assertions is not “enabling” that person. Seriously, it is not the fault of every other person on the SDMB that Diogenes is a jerk who expresses his opinions in an assholish way and tends to hijack threads with his assholishness.

Hahaa! You nailed it. I have noticed this too. He plays it all casual, saying something he knows will be controversial to say, but just playing it cool.

When the inevitable responses of outrage or whatever begin to trickle in, he will tease out a bit more info to support his opinion…then a bit more. I notice it all the time and find it hilarious.

I mean, if you are going to say something controversial, at least acknowledge it a bit. It would head off a lot of the response posts. “I think all babies should be barbecued…I know that sounds strange, but hear me out…” and then go ahead and support that. Maybe you are right and the only good baby is a baby on the barby…but you have to set that shit up properly when introducing such a thing in a thread. It would really change the tone of the thread, I think and make it less likely to be the Dio Show. But you know…he digs starring in the Dio Show, so watteryagonnado.

Even if (and it’s a big “if”) there is the occasional spavined cow in the herd, that doesn’t make it a goat.

If he expresses his opinion in an assholish way, why is it necessary to respond to it? Why do you care what his opinion about something is?

Why do you care if anyone cares?

If I had a nickel for every time a thread I was interested in was completely ruined and trampled over by The Dio Show, I would have $8.37 exactly.

Didn’t you mean to say “oops, my statement that infertility is not a disability was factually incorrect”?

I recognize that it’s the law, but it’s a stupid law.

Because some people share his wrong opinions. Correcting wrong opinions is what one hopes the Straight Dope does. The stated aim of the board is, afterall, to help fight ignorance.

Because I’m baffled by it. Really. I am just completely confused why people would spend so much energy trying to convince someone that they’re wrong, when thet person has shown almost no propensity to deal with or respond to other posters in a reasonable way.

Progress. At least you didn’t say, “Well, in my opinion, it’s not the law”.

ETA: Larry, the point it, the same way you are baffled by other’s reasons for posting, that is the same way I may be baffled at your need to post a response to their posts. And so on and so on until we are all looking at eachother in meta mirrors. We all respond and get worked up and clash opinions and all that jazz because that is the fun and the tradition of messageboarding. It’s not personal or anything.

It wasn’t factually incorrect. Infertility is not a disability just because a judge says so. It may have to be treated as such legally, but that doesn’t change my opinion. I don’t see how the person is disabled.

Question, should infertile people be allowed to park in handicapped parking spots? If not, why not? They’re disabled, after all.

Why is being baffled by something a legitimate reason to post, while being annoyed by something isn’t?

Yeah! What kind of jerk move is that?

Huh? You can post for any reason you want. I can’t stop you. I’m just asking why people care so much about what Diogenes thinks, and spend so much energy trying to get him to change his mind.

Holy shit. There are a ton of disabilities that don’t require a handicapped parking sticker.

Like what?

Cognitive ones.

It just seems that people get so worked up. I have this impression of someone screaming at their computer “WHY! WON’T! YOU! LISTEN!?” Well, he won’t. You all should have realized that a while ago. Still if arguing with people who don’t listen to you and won’t respond to anything you say except to repeat themselves is how people here get their thrills, rock on I guess. But you’re getting played.
