Direct URL link to new SDMB at Discourse?

TubaDiva has explained that DNS will be updated so that our existing links to SDMB will point to our new digs. But does that take some indefinite amount of time (hours? days?) to get propagated to DNS servers around the world?

In the meantime, perhaps TubaDiva or someone can give us the direct URL link to our new place in the sun?

DNS propagation is usually stated to take 24 hours. However, for most people, changes will be working with a few hours.
So, if they update the DNS at noon, I’d expect most people to be able to access the site by, let’s say, 5:00.
Some will be able to access it within an hour, for some it could be a day.
Make sure you’re refreshing (ctrl+F5) so you’re not pulling up a cached version version.

I’d expect if tuba gave us the direct link/IP Address, it would cause more confusion than it’s worth.

Ah, I was just wondering about this. I believe most ISP’s DNS resolver cache time-to-live is 24 hours or less. Your local router or operating system might have their own cache, too.

The TTL for the site is set to 60 minutes, so all downstream servers would only cache it for that long before forcing a new lookup.

I was advised earlier the starting url – the home page – would be the same.

Everything after that will probably be different, I would expect it to be different, it’s a different system. But we’ll see how this goes when we get there. But the starting point will remain the same.

BTW, there seems to be a persistent rumor that Discourse cannot support threads that have a multitude of pages. I have been told that they have looked at some of our biggest threads and so far everything appears to be there.

The new address is the A with a little circle on top of it, the slanted hourglass, the golf putter, the square root symbol doing a headstand, and the guy who’s playing The Floor is Lava.
